I was diagnosed with a rather rare blood disorder and given a max of 6 months to live. After dealing with the initial "oh shit" part of the situation, I started getting my affairs in order I realized that I had been blessed with a pretty damned good life in my 44 years on this earth and really didn't mind the end coming (sometimes the pain was bad enough that I wanted it to go ahead and happen). Four years has gone by since the initial diagnosis and I am down to visiting the doctors on a monthly basis (was going every 2 - 3 days for several months). I don't take life for granted anymore. :) Hell, on the bright side... When I do die, I've already taken care of most of my final expenses! The wife and/or parents don't have to worry about any of that mess. ;) I don't know what you are facing. I don't know what the outcome will be. Stay strong as long as possible and enjoy the good moments in life. That's what counts!

  • I wouldn't really call it bravery as much as necessity. Just never wanted to be a burden after my death. ;) I was a slobbery puddle of mess those first couple of weeks! I'm not saying I'm special by any means (quite the contrary, I am a normal, average person), but I have had the fortune to travel the states for 22 years (I own a sales business that involves LARGE amounts of travel). I've seen some incredible things and been to beautiful places. I just feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunities I have had. Another "plus" is that I teach the doctors new things about the disorder every time I go in for treatments. I sometimes feel that it is my job/duty to increase the knowledge so that others dealing with the same, may have an easier time and better understanding . My post wasn't meant to be about me inasmuch as it was to let the OP know that there are people that can relate. If it can help him in a positive way... That's all I want.
