There's no way this wouldn't break the game inside of 48 hours in the hands of the community. Nevermind the piss off that would be getting instagibbed through walls. It doesn't matter how much you restrict it with ammo, etc, you're still proposing a weapon intended entirely to snipe through walls. The amount of restrictions you have to saddle it with to make it sound justifiable is proof enough it wouldn't be remotely balanced in game,. And for the record a "heavy" sniper rifle is an anti-material rifle. They're not for shooting people. They're for when you need to snipe a truck ;p

  • Well other games have pulled it off with balance so I'm sure Bungie could take the spirit of the weapon and refine it. See my links to 2 guns this is inspired from in very popular and successful games. Also, since a big purpose of this gun would be boss killing, anti-tank sniper sounds quite fitting when shooting giant shanks, hydras, Goliath and walker tanks, armored 1000 lb turtles and gods.

You can't compare Destiny to two single player shooters that are well over a decade old. So, in other words you're just purposing Gally 2.0 to trivialize content again? This just isn't remotely balanced, sorry. A weapon specifically designed to speed up boss kills is a bad enough idea as is. In order for it to fullfill that stated purpose it would also need a massive amount of frontloaded damage so it doesn't get surpassed by the DPS of other weapons over time. You've tried to limit its ammo as a way of balancing it but this just pushes it closer to function with a rocket launcher except with far more damage. So without boss killling and shooting through walls as viable mechanics, what does that leave it with? Any niche left over it could fit in is already covered by Sleeper Stimulant. Which is essentially a heavy weapon rail gun.

Red Faction had online multiplayer (PC version) and Perfect Dark had 4 player multi with 12 player support when bots were turned on. Single player only my butt! (and the new xbox perfect dark remaster has 8 player also) Shooting through walls is a viable mechanic. Cannot multikill like a rocket. Cannot chew up adds with precision like an LMG. CAN hit Majors and ultras at range behind cover. All heavies are niche. Your other points simply fall into preference of what heavy weapon you would want to use. And the sleeper sim cannot shoot through walls. It only penetrates enemies..which makes no ballistic sense since it ricochets off walls and "solids".

  • But with infinite penetration it could shoot through any number of enemies at once if there lined up together. I appreciate you trying to come up with something different. But with the trouble the game mechanics have occasionally this would be a night mare to try and put in game, and I also think that we just got away from the whole you must have gally to play. This would bring that back were you would need this gun in order to get into any raids or harder difficulty parts of the game.

I did not say single player only. I said single player. As in that was the focus of the games. They were not trying to focus on or juggle the amount of balls that a modern online shooter like Destiny does. If you want to make this point find a modern online shooter with a weapon that penetrates all geometry where that weapon is not an object of hate and scorn by its community. Don't compare it to an N64 game over a decade old. People do not like being killed in a manner they feel is unfair and being killed by an opponent that is not even visible is one of the heights of that. On top of that, Destiny was not built with a weapon that could shoot through multiple layers of geometry in mind. Cheeses would inevitably emerge and levels/scenarios would have to be changed to accomodate a single weapon leading to more problems and more man hours to fix those problems. Bungie has already had to address and fix geometry piercing cheeses ( Deathsinger ) in the past as is. I doubt they are eager to add more. I'm not trying to shit on you or be a "hater" or whatever the fark. If you're going to propose an idea, especially in an industry as brutal as this one, you need to be ready to accept constructive criticism. Adding a new weapon to a game like Destiny is no small undertaking. The labour costs for concepting, production, testing and programming alone are significant. We're talking several thousands of dollars here. Nevermind overhead and distribution. So as you can imagine, anything new added to a game ( especially a new weapon type ) like this has to A) Bring something new to the table or fill a need in the gameplay and B) Not cause more problems than it solves ( which in turn would cost more money to fix ). Pragmatism is a bitch, unfortunately.

  • OP? Maybe. Fun? Absolutely. You have to start with grand plans and narrow the final result. Also...who doesn't like the flavor text :)
