Well, let's look scientifically. New Monarchy is just a bad choice in general. Even if we beat the darkness and heal the Traveler, there's still centuries to go before another "Golden Age" can be founded. That's even assuming the Traveler stays with us (more on that later). That, and a monarchy sounds like a bad idea. Future War Cult is arguably a good option. Though not much is known, it's assumed they're using a Vex-tech machine to go through timelines and/or see the future to shape it to their liking. The Exo Stranger is also assumed to have some kind of alliance or such with them. This is all speculation. Taking into the account of story, they arguably could have the most impact on the story, if we ever learn their motives. Heck! We don't even know why they're going through the timelines. It's all speculation and I have learned not to trust shady and nondescript people
*cough cough* Speaker *cough*
Finally is Dead Orbit, and sue me if I'm biased. This goes back to the roots of the Traveler. The Traveler is known (Fallen, Hive, other unknown planets in Book of Worms) to up and abandon it's Golden-Age-ified planets when the Darkness comes. Rasputin was clever and stopped the Traveler from running by shutting down all defenses. This essentially forced the Traveler to stay and fight for it's own safety (some argue that Rasputin physically crippled the Traveler, but I doubt it). So, now that we've got that, who's to say the Traveler will stay with us when it wakes? It is weak and we are now militarized, so why stay? Dead Orbit has the right idea. For example, the Fallen had a very similar history to us. They had a unified golden age, and then split into factions after their collapse. Sound familiar? And which Fallen houses survived the Darkness? The ones that ran to space, thus enabling their species to live. That's my say on the best faction. Edit: Holy crap! I was not expecting such positive feedback! I'd recommend looking at CommanderHawk8's reply, as it covers a few things I may have missed.

  • "the fallen ran.... look what they have become, dregs of their society clinging onto a false sense of nobility. The Krill.... they where wiped out. Twisted ad deformed into what we know as the Hive. I mean don't we all love engaging in rituals and killing our siblings again and again for pleasure and because you love them?.... no its weird... do you want humans and exos to suffer the same fate?" • Wait, if we are the guardians of the traveler and our light is from the traveler will we go with or cease to exist?

  • Well, that's a good question. Depends on what our light comes from exactly. I think it is stored inside the ghost. I say this because Guardians only die when they don't have their ghosts (such as the guardian in front of the Temple of Crota or any of the "lost" Guardians like Dredgen and Kabr).

  • New Monarchy, after facing the darkness a king like Zavala can lead us through a second golden age. I am indifferent to the FWC, I don't know much about them. Dead Orbit can't think of escape as their only option. During the collapse people tried to escape and the survivors became the Awoken. Running away from our problems is unacceptable and cowardly

  • Yet we also barely survived with the Traveler. Without it, staying there is hopeless.

I don't think abandoning the city (and the traveler in the process) would be a good idea, what happens if the darkness destroys the traveler? Do guardians get to keep their abilities? Maybe, maybe not. It just seems too risky. And look at what happened to the fallen, they turned into mindless scavengers with no possibility of a future where they have a home of their own. In fact the fallen are facing extinction at the hands of everything (Including their own kind)

Ok I'm just going to say this first since you said it last. Fallen houses were there before the Whirlwind on the eliskni home world. House rain was the closest to Alpha Lupi and got hit the hardest when she left. -FWC use a machine that was made to simulate different futures. They don't control them, they don't walk through them, they view them. The machine acts as a window into a possible future. Most test subjects that have entered the machine report of darkness and go insane shortly after viewing. -Alpha Lupi is here to stay. She decided to stop running, saw the strength in us, and stayed. While she has given other races the golden age-and-run, she wants to fight with us against the darkness. -Rasputin definitely attacked the darkness in the area now known as the reef right when the collapse happened, then shut down so it could analyze and learn about the darkness.

Alpha Lupi is what most people assume as the Traveler's "spirit". I know that sounds weird but hear me out. Most of the "Dreams of Alpha Lupi" could fit under a few other characters, but they fit together the best if you think of the Traveler saying them. So there must be some kind of connection between the two. Right? Well, Alpha Lupi translates to "Alpha wolves". Where do they talk about wolves? THE "Law of the Jungle" DESTINY TRAILER! How? They say, and I quote, "For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack." We heal Alpha Lupi (the wolf), she gets strength. We (the pack) get our light from Alpha Lupi, we get strength.

  • This is a very interesting and in depth look at Dead Orbit and probably the best description I've seen of their position. I'm still a New Monarchy guy, always an optimist...plus I love the color red and can't stand the Dead Orbit symbol or their creepy leader

  • People overreact to factions based on name and colors for some reason. DO aren't cowards trying to run away. They see this solar system as a lost cause. Ok, so we beat back the darkness and all the other alien races... Then what? Rebuild on a planet already mined of its resources? Repopulate Venus, half taken by the Vex? Can't live on the other gas giants and Pluto is too damn small and cold... Why not expand and explore the vast universe? I'm with Dead Orbit all the way. Time to evolve and move out of the crib we call Earth.
