Ok, I just attempted the weekly heroic with Found Verdict. I couldn't stand even five minutes. Wow. Shotguns are useless again. I unloaded an entire clip into a reaver captain, and he wouldn't even flinch, let alone die. I had 170 light, too. With all the majors in that strike, it became unbearable. Now we have nothing to counter high health enemies with. Shotguns were perfect before. High risk, high reward. Now, with nerfed range on top of the 45% damage cut, they are high risk, no reward. This needs to be addressed. We were promised a ten percent nerf, we got 45, basically undoing the much welcomed buff of 100% way back. We'll be stuck slowly whittling away major enemies with primaries.

ridiculous. i noticed the nerf but didnt know it was as much as 45%. no wonder my found verdict was so bad. took about 6 shots to the torso and head to kill a captain, and even then only just. such a stupid, awful update. unbelievable.

  • Yeah. To give an example of the math: Let's say we started at 10 damage day one. The first buff was a 100%. That leaves us with 20 (10+10) damage. Take away 45% from 20, and you get 11 (20-9). That's a ten percent gain from day one. To be fair, higher attack of TTK shotguns might account to some extent for the loss in damage, but the actual base damage multiplier has been changed completely (as per the patch notes). I will give the game the benefit of the doubt until I get my first 280 legendary shotgun, however.

  • Wow. That's just dumb. Why even have shotguns in the game if they're that useless. Headshots with a sniper will take down a captain's shields but you don't always have the luxury of being at the right distance. Plus they'll just teleport away to cover and come after you once their shield regenerates. The only reason to carry a shotgun in the first place is if you're willing to get up close and personal with a captain or Minotaur/praetorian and take them down. If you jump up close to one of them, empty your 4th horseman or final verdict into his face and he just looks at you like you're an idiot, then shotguns are basically dead. Why would Bungie destroy a feature in their own product?

  • Yeah, I don't get it either. The whole reason for the 100% buff way back was because nobody was using them in PvE (though I still did). Now, after a 45% nerf we are left with a net gain of 10% from day one. Like you say, captains usually swerve like crazy (at the same time attacking with laser accuracy with two shot shrapnel launchers), sniping just simply isn't optimal in every situation. That was the whole point of the shotgun buff; to get a higher reward for getting close and personal with the enemy. Even with the 100% buff, 35 reaver captains were a pain in the PoE. Swerving, dodging, moving back, hardly getting staggered even when hit point blank in the face. I can't even imagine fighting any major in the game anymore - the A.I. already has too many advantages as far as range, tracking, burns, not having to reload and health goes. tl;dr The enemy has always had the upper hand from a mechanical PoV, and now we lost the best means to countering that hand (together with burns being equal and Gjallarhorn, Ice Breaker and Black Hammer).

  • A lot of game developers don't know the difference between challenging and annoying.
