It's also the fact that they are taking close to 70%of the game away from us and making us pay a massive price. This is madness

Key word there is "might"

It isn't a matter of them being better (although they haven't made any better guns since the original game, so why start thinking that they are now) it's the fact that all those hours spent grinding only to realize it was a waste, pisses us off. Especially after they told us that they heard the message loud and clear and wouldn't do it again. I worked my butt off to get a vault full of gear that anyone would be envious of, and now it gets to get dismantled. We think the time we put in should mean something, and not put us on parity with someone who starts playing on Sept 15. So now we have to grind some more if we want the top gear, knowing that there's a high probability that this exact scenario will play out again in the future. Some of us are deciding that the inconsistent message and having our time wasted on a futile endeavor are not for us.

They have to make old items useless otherwise the game will become stagnant, it sucks but it needs to be done. I've played plenty of RPGs where I had a weapon I was in love with but when a new dlc came out and the level cap was raised I had to get rid of it, but I eventually got new weapons that I liked and everything worked out in the end.
-
But these are unique weapons, I highly doubt they can out due fatebringer, vex, ghorn, necro never had a chance to shine ! Not to mention all the damn grinding for the damn crux!
-
No they don't have to make them useless. I'm all for introducing new weapons and armor. It allows for more individuality amongst players. I'm even open to eliminating old exotics and legendaries from dropping, causing their numbers to decrease over time through attrition. But a year 1 legendary should have the same value as any other legendary in the game. People ask if I really want to be using my Fatebringer in year 10. Yeah, I would, especially if the very few people who stuck around since year 1 were the only ones who had it. I think that would be really cool and would probably keep me playing longer. And content, or a lack thereof, is what makes a game relevant or stagnant, not keeping weapons that people like.

Completely agree with both your posts. The year one gear was the only thing separating us from new players. But bungie wants to put everyone on the same playing field and have the vets in the same boat as new players. Which isn't fair to us vets AT ALL. For ex: I love the look of the vog hunter boots. But now I can't wear them or my light will go down. Thus making all activities/actions leading up to TTK worthless. The only thing we have to show for our hours of playing is our experience. Not saying that, that's a bad thing but I would like to keep my messenger for ToO also. An easy fix. Allow us to only upgrade 10 or like 5 old weapon and armor. Their everybody is happy.

Man, that would be sick! People crowding around on their mics saying "where did you get that? " "I got it year one kids!"
-
Exactly. We only a few weapons from the foundries and the exotic weapons. The legendary weapons may be better then what we're currently using. It's too early to decide based on some information.
