Mine has Sureshot Sight (for its "superb target aquisition" aka auto aim increase), Battle Runner (which I honestly would prefer something different here), Smallbore for the range increase and mag size decrease, and Luck in the Chamber. That Luck in the Chamber round does 127 damage in pvp and has a 1 in 5 chance to happen per bullet per mag due to the reduced mag size from 7 to 5 from Smallbore. It 2 shots when LINC hits or 3 shots without it (96 damage per regular bullet headshot). It,s still not as good as Thorn, Hawkemoon, or TLW, but its still pretty damn good. I haven't had the chance to pull a Hawkemoon or TLW yet, and I don't really like using my fully upgraded Thorn because it would be pretty hypocritical of me to get annoyed when so many other players are using it (since it's quite obviously OP) if I were to use it myself. I'll still pull it out sometimes though if there's a ton of Thorn users on the other team or if I want to quickly finish the handcannon kills bounty. Overall, Red Death is still my go-to pvp weapon.

Edited by Creepeth: 6/24/2015 3:44:16 PMI have a different take sixclicks. Keep using the thorn and Bungie will be forced to rebalance weapons. By not using the Thorn, you are actually hurting the chances of Bungie rebalancing weapons. It's not like Thorn is a hard-to-get exotic. It's an exotic everyone, by now, has had an opportunity to get. Get a good void shotgun, word of crota, and a void heavy, then you're good to go. Add in a voidwalker, and you're golden. Also, I say go ahead and use the most OP weapons in the crucible. They are OP for a reason. Why penalize or handicap yourself? Bungie will rebalance weapons sooner or later, and when they do, then switch that new OP weapon. For the longest, fusion rifles and auto rifles owned the battle field. Now it's hand cannons and shotguns. Next, maybe scout rifles and side arms? who knows. But when they do rebalance, I see that as an opportunity to try a new loadout.

I just really like the way Red Death feels and performs too. If I'm doing something like Trials, then I'll definitely use Thorn because your definitely at a disadvantage against equally skilled players without it. But in standard crucible matches I just use whatever I feel like messing around with that day. I just think the range of handcannons needs to be pretty harshly nerfed because there's no reason they should do the same damage as a point blank shot at sniper range. I just hope when a nerf does happen that they don't make them as basically useless as auto rifles have become. Thorn used to be a pretty bad weapon, so it needed a buff. But they just overbuffed it.

Edited by Creepeth: 6/24/2015 4:07:09 PMI call Red Death the thorn killer. There is no weapon that can outduel Thorn like the Red Death. Red Death can kill your target quicker than the Thorn, and when the poison could land a postmordem kill in most situations, the health regen of Red Death nullifies this effect. If I am using Thorn and go up against an equally skilled Red Death opponent, I will lose more often than not. Suros has same potential, but the ttk of suros is crap right now and the chance for health regen is random, so it is not nearly as good as the Red Death for this purpose. Personally, I prefer the Thorn b/c with Send It, the range is insane. Although Red Death is better for mid- to close-range battles, Thorn i find is more versatile across all distances.
