FinnishMoose, what do you think of Red Death and The Last Word? I personally started using Thorn to fix my aim (used mostly auto rifles before that). I understand people complaining about Thorn, but I don't understand they ONLY complain about Thorn. I think Thorn, The Last Word and Red Death are "The Big Three" at this moment. If Thorn gets "fixed", The Last Word and Red Death should be too. At least that's what I think. Red Death is by the way the answer to Thorn's DOT. If I have a one on one with a Red Death player and he kills me first he gets health regen immediately, cancelling Thorn's DOT.

  • I actually think Red Death is pretty balanced. And The Last Word is borderli.e overpowered in my experience, but to be honest I don't mind it NEARLY as much as the Thorn. Or Hawkmoon. If there's a big three, I say it's those three exotic Hand Cannons. It has a decent chance to two shot you outright. If you don't play on PS4 you don't see the Hawkmoon so maybe you see more Last Words and Red Deaths as a result...

  • It doesn't cancel the DoT, it can still take away health as soon as the heal kicks in, thereby neutralizing the Red Deaths heal. The last word needs a stability fix, and the Hawkmoon can have one bullet that has the damage of the two random bullets.

  • This is incorrect. The Red Death's Health Regeneration perk is a trigger for your armor. It does not supersede the DOT of Thorn. In fact, Thorn's DOT will STOP the Red Death's health regen effect.

Not true only if they are hit after the kill during the regen does it halt anything

  • Thorn's DOT has a short timer of 3-4 seconds. Are you certain you're trading a final shot with the RD user? Regardless, we are here on this post because Thorn is OP. I like the suggestion of DOT only affecting shield, not life. Or, my suggestion is that DOT can't kill. It can damage down to 1-shot, but a bullet / melee / super / grenade / hazard / fall damage must defeat a guardian. What do you think?

  • Not bad. In essence it's about the same, your idea simply favors a even slighter nerf. That's not a bad thing, and if action were to be taken I would call it a win if that was implemented.

  • Personally I like a few ideas. The big problems with thorn are it needs an aim assist nerf for one. It hands out head shot like crazy. The next issue is the guaranteed two shot headshot. This can solved a few ways. I personally like a much greater drop off with distance. Maybe even remove send it. I had the idea yesterday the dot should drop significantly with distance

  • Yah usually it's because I hit a body instead of a second headshot at the same time

Please look closely the next time your are in crucible, facing a thorn while using Red Death. This is best witnessed during ToO, since the majority of players there are using thorn. Red Death simply "triggers" your health regen / armor regen. If you watch your two-part health bar at the top of the screen, you'll see both halves (yes, the 1/3 portion that is your LIFE is being counted as a half here) start to heal simultaneously. However, if you are still being burned by Thorn, it will halt the regen because you are being damaged. This also happens whenever a Sunsinger burns a player with their ability. That's what so OP about burn attributes. They supercede other exotic perks, armor perks, and Guardian perks. Two Guardians-- a Defender and Sunsinger-- trade melee attacks. The Titan defeats the Sunsinger, and gains Force Barrier. However, the Sunsinger was wearing the burn attribute. The Titan continues to burn, even though the Titan has a force barrier. It's the same if the Titan hit someone using thorn, and gained the barrier. Thorn is OP not because it burns, but because it's perk DEFEATS other armor and weapon perks. Red Death SHOULD cancel Thorn. It does not. It triggers health regen, and Thorn DOT halts the regen at its next damage interval.

Then why do I burn so many people to watch them regain all their health and shields after I'm killed

  • Hmmm... seriuously? I saw Red Death users almost die by my Thorn DOT, but as soon as I died their health came back instantly.
