Not going to lie, pretty upset they are dumbing this encounter down. I found the difficulty to be right on par with how it was the first times we encountered VoG and Crota, over time as strategies perfected and people geared up appropriately they became pretty standard fights. Hate they are bowing to the whiners on the forums already.
I have beaten him with burn down methods, sniper methods, and full running around throughout. All three able to be done based on the class, skill, gear mix of the group. This isn't supposed to be something any/everyone can do, no different than Crota was. Hell half the people who were beating him only did so through glitches for a time being.
edit 1: The other big change beyond the burns are the enemies spawning and the fact they will do much less damage. I think it will actually make it much easier the way they are changing it, you could now with these changes clear out adds, completely reset, hell even kill enough time for your synths if all you have to do is worry about Skolas. Then just simply burn him still with whatever you want, and deal with the adds, rinse repeat. Way too easy now imho.
edit 2: Obviously we will have to see how these changes play out in the actual encounter and also see what these new mechanics we will have to juggle will be. But based on their description it seems that it will be easier, and that making it easier WAS their intention due to people not completing it.
What do you guys think of the changes?

Option 4: these options suck [x]

4 RepliesMeh, after I finish my last cipher I'm done with the prison.... I have a question, can the queens cipher drop at the lvl 28 chest?

I think they just realised that the fight is not rewarding for most players, who either burn succeed or just fail. Did you try following the mechanics for ARC burn? Even with everyone playing their roles you were still one shot by a sniper across the map. I know I did and it took me 4 hours? to complete ! I don't know how they expected this encounter to go, within their expected PoE run time of 90 mins max? (Is that right, I seem to remember that number from somewhere). Having done a run in an hour ish only once with PuG groups, I guess players don't match the play testers execution of the encounter even with the given that its probably also expected to be a bit of a gear check. While originally angry about the lack of checkpoints and non commensurate rewards I've come to realise the catalyst for these problems is the average time taken to complete the encounter. If you could semi reliably complete it start to finish in under 90 mins you would have less need of checkpoints and probably feel less aggrieved by the sub par rewards, no wonder everyone is looking for CPs. This is without taking into account the fact you also need to find time to separately run the 34 and 32 for a full set of rewards. Any encounter that takes more than an hour with no checkpoints starts to feel downright punitive for people with real life commitments / less reliable Internet. There will probably be more Gjallahorn posts now though as while previously it was only arguably the best gun for one week in 3 its now probably the best gun for every week burst DPS wise bar maybe the specialist modifier. I'm interested to see how the changes pan out and to see how people adjust to burning him down. What do you think?
-
54% is salty because they can't burn him with gally.
-
Way too many servitors and majors. They need to ease up on all the ads, I like a challenge but spending 6 hours on one fight is way too long for me.
-
I just wanted a decrease in ads
-
I am also willing to bet the same people that have already beaten him will continue to do so. Those that haven't will continue to struggle to do so.
-
They are not nerfing the Skolas fight. They are making you use the mechanics as they meant you to play them. You say dumbing them down. Beating Skolas in 40 seconds is pretty damn easy.
-
2 RepliesI like the change. The fight will be more consistent week to week and people won't be able to cheese it assuming they don't make his health too low. The spawns being changed is good too, infinitely spawning adds is just bad design.
-
2 RepliesI didn't know they were nerfing the encounter. That's honestly extremely sad, because it's really not any harder than anything else I've first come across in destiny. but it's not something that, I personally, could carry somebody through. Today was my first 30 second kill, because the 2 players I did it with insisted on doing it that way. it was so boring, needless to say... arc burn Skolas was one of the most challenging encounters I've had through this game, & i'm pretty upset to see they're gonna dumb it down...the majority of the player base already just reforges their old Spears every week for whatever burn it is & does 30 second kills. how much easier can it be made? This shit is kind of sad. it's gonna ruin Skolas. AKA, the ONLY challenging encounter in ALL of PoE if done the intended drawn out fight. Next I'm sure Trials is gonna be watered down for the worst. totally destroying that too.

3 RepliesI don't know how to get it through you numbskulls. It is not a nerf, more of a buff. He is losing some health, but there will not be an elemental burn. This will make the fight harder and will make you have to deal with the mechanics. If I am right, using black hammer every week and nailing the living shit out of him with it will not be a viable strategy. I think that they will take away 1/3 of his health, and in combination they are taking the 3x buff of an elemental burn away *technically* giving him 2x more health, but making you still able to take some hits from fallen weapons without a 3x buff.

The game needs to be harder, not easier, in order to keep an audience with low content.
-
Who actually does skolas for fun? Lol just reap the rewards
-
Why are all you guys crying and bitching about how hard this is!!!! These burns make this harder and you bitches are crying over something so stupid cause you can't beat it who cares -blam!-ing suck it up
-
6 RepliesLol "upset." World hunger? Nope. Religion? Nope. Gay rights? Nope. Overpopulation, Global Warming, War Crimes? Nope Nope Nope THIS ladies and gentlemen... is an issue worth getting upset about. SOLAS DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE NERFED! Spread the word people!
-
3 Replies56% of ppl here cant use a sniper rifle...
-
I'm kind of mixed on this as well. I've beaten him (in the quick and easy plus long drawn out) before. The key each time was excellent coordination and good gear. I believe teams that struggled with Skolas had problems with one or both of the tactics above. Ultimately (and obviously) Bungie wants us to have fun with their game. Sometimes (especially here on the forums) the PvE players ARE referred to as "casuals" and this activity is likely catered to them in the first place. ToO is certainly geared for PvP/"serious" player base, I don't have much of an issue with a more "relaxed" crowd having this event less "frustrating".
-
I bet it will be harder
-
Well first off they are not "nurffing" skolas they are making him an actual boss fight...not I it's solar burn so he must die in 30 seconds. This fight will need to have a team to fight through it and work together so for most the fight will kick their ass because most haven't even fought the waves off while passing the essence around while defusing mines on top of that. I can say that I'm more then happy to hear they are changing it
-
Was it super difficult? No, not really. Was it fun? Nope. Not really. It was a tedious fight with annoying mechanics and lackluster rewards. I wasn't angry with it, but I just never cared enough to actually do the damn thing after week one. Maybe now I will actually partake in the activity.
-
I don't care either way. The biggest issue is the rewards from PoE aren't very worthwhile.
-
23 RepliesSo sick of all the filthy casuals complaining. First quodron was nerfed and now skolas?? Wtf bungie quit catering to the casuals and actually give us a challenge. End game activities are meant for the good destiny players not the scrubs that can't beat a simple boss. Stick to ROC strikes bums.
-
If 35 was to hard there was always 34 but typical bungie nerf everything down to casual level
-
1 ReplyNice to see a post discussing the upcoming change instead of whining about it. I think that if you can't down Skolas in one minute anymore and you actually have to play out all the mechanics of the fight it will become a real challenge instead of a prison rec yard group shanking.
-
3 RepliesEveryone thinks they nerfed it but here's the counter argument Trickle Grounded Light switch All of these are possible modifiers and any 2 of those together would suck
-
1 ReplyI "cheesed" it the 1st week with max gallys. Couldn't finish the 2nd week in poor fireteams. Helped 2 kids through void "legit" last week. Which was the most fun/satisfying? Legit. Just my opinion
