Doh just found the answer to my question: At 36:48 Deej says it needs to be fully upgraded to be ascended

I'm not so sure. Deej seemed pretty sure that he was about to upgrade his non-upgraded, even non-leveled, Mythoclast to 365. The Ascend icon looked the same as when he did it on the Shadow Price. When he hovered over it, it showed everything in green except weapon parts. It looked like if he had just had weapon parts it would let him do it. I can't believe that he wasn't prepared to demonstrate this. There is no excuse for not having everything needed in his inventory. At that point I was still hopeful that he would go get them from the vault, but then Gothalion had to chime in and say that he had one to ascend. Of course his was already fully upgraded so that left this question unanswered. I have reached out to Deej and Gothalion on Twitter but haven't gotten an answer. I know that Gothalion saw my question because he responded to me to ask me what I was wanting to know. I then explained in greater detail, but he never responded. I was hoping that they would clear it up in the reveal today, but they didn't touch on it. Surely Deej meant to cover this last week, but accidentally left it out. If only he had had enough weapon parts we would all know. It is pretty irritating that we are left with an unanswered question because of his lack of preparedness. I'm not using any exotic shards to upgrade the last node of my exotics until I know for sure. Before seeing the reveal, I would have assumed that it would have to be fully upgraded to 331 before it can be ascended, but after seeing the reveal and how that option was available for a non-leveled Mythoclast I'm just not sure. I hope somebody is able to clear this up soon. I know that Deej said the words "fully upgraded' but I don't take that as to mean it has to be. Many people have a Gjallarhorn that is fully upgraded so I took that as him just saying to those people "You can take your fully upgraded Gjallarhorns and ascend them to 365". That doesn't technically rule out people with one that isn't upgraded. What do you guys think?

He only could upgrade mythoclast at that point because he was in a dev environment.

I see your point, it was left ambiguous for the Mythoclast. The ascend icon does not seem to differ whether or not the weapon is fully upgraded. Thinking about it more though, the pattern of the upgrades says that the further right you go on the tree, the more upgrades you have to purchase to get there. So it may be the case that because they put the ascend icon on the left under a node that is by default unlocked, you can basically ascend any time as long as you have the materials. In this case I severely hope that it does not just go to 365 but rather act like other damage upgrade nodes, otherwise why even bother upgrading the rest of your weapon trees? Knowing Bungie, I feel the right course of action is to be cautious, as you mentioned, and not spend tons of resources upgrading weapons, especially from Xur now that we know his system is being thrown out.

Yeah, and they are doing away with "Upgrade Damage" nodes all together on the new weapons. I noticed that some of the new weapons being sold by the Vanguard have a base damage of 331. Then when you ascend them, they go straight to 365. I do like this method. The damage nodes were lame. I'm glad that the nodes will just be for the perks now. Like you mentioned, for these new guns, I believe they can be ascended to 365 attack at any time if you have the etheric light needed. This separates damage from perks. I'm just curious how this affects our current weapons. If I had to guess and if I was designing it, the "Ascend" option would just bump up the damage so that the new base is 331 and each upgrade damage node gets you a little closer to 365. This will probably be how it works and makes the most sense. I just really wish we had gotten to see Deej upgrade that Mythoclast. If it only went to 331, then we would know the answer to this. Then he would have had to talk about it. I assumed that this detail would be part of the reveal. For some reason, I got the impression that he was expecting it to upgrade to 365. He never mentioned that it would first upgrade to 331 and then he would have to finish it through the nodes. He wouldn't have been able to do that anyway since it didn't have any experience applied to it yet. That made me wonder why he picked that one to upgrade. If not for this, I would just assume that our weapons had to be fully upgraded first to reach maximum damage. The only other explanation I can think of is they had no intention of going into detail about this and the only point we were supposed to take from the reveal was that it was possible for all legendary and exotic weapons to reach 365 damage. I'm sure they were on a dev build of the game. Maybe the option to ascend won't be available in the final release until it is fully leveled or something. Who knows? Or maybe it will be available but just bump it to 331 even if it hasn't had any XP applied. I guess we'll have to wait another 18 days to find out. In the meantime, I won't be upgrading the last node on my exotics and I advise against anyone purchasing any upgrades from Xur.
