Writing Lead

Are you a kick-ass writer? Have your stories occupied players' imaginations for days, weeks -- years on end? Can you inspire artists to create whole worlds and races of creatures with a few, quality keystrokes? Do you strive for emotional imperviousness to constructive editorial, and have a burning desire to build a team of writers made of similar stuff? Then read on...

Responsibilities

  • Histories and legends, combat dialog, weapon descriptions &c. Your words will help define Bungie's next game universe
  • Work for and collaborate with a Design Director responsible for all aspects of storytelling
  • Mentor and manage a team of internal and external writers

Requirements

  • Exceptional creative writing skills, especially in service of vivid, complex, memorable characters
  • Minimum 5 years game industry experience or two, shipped AAA games; branching or non-linear narrative experience a plus
  • Solid track record of team leadership
  • Excellent design and artistic sensibilities; straight-up mission or character design experience a plus
  • High level of comfort in a collaborative writing process; solitary scribes need not apply
  • Zero desire to parlay your game writing experience into a film, TV show, novel &c.

Gameplay Design Lead

Essential Functions

As the Gameplay Design Lead, you work closely with the Creative Director and lead a group of designers responsible for crafting, designing and implementing high-level game systems. You will collaborate with team members from other disciplines to drive the gameplay experience. You will also contribute to design processes and communication that will ensure your work is the very best it can possibly be.

Responsibilities

You will lead a team of designers to build a compelling second-to-second gameplay experience. You and your team will be responsible for:
  • Collaboratively design top notch gameplay systems.

Player Investment Design Lead

If you answered yes to these questions (and you are a creative genius, a charismatic visionary and a work-a-holic game-o-phile) you might want to polish up your resume and apply to be Bungie’s next Player Investment Design Lead.

The Player Investment Design Lead directs a group of designers responsible for founding a robust and rewarding investment path, supported by consistent, rich and secure incentives that drives player behavior toward having fun and investing in their characters, and then validates those systems through intense simulation, testing and iteration.

Responsibilities

  • Designing the mechanics which drive in-game player reward and incentives.
    • So players feel invested in the world and their character.
    • So players have long-term goals.
    • So players can't grief or exploit them.
  • Running simulations of these mechanics based on expected player behavior.
  • Testing these simulated results against actual player behavior and tuning the live system.
  • Create content that are rewards in-and-of-themselves.
  • Organize the Reward Content Designers, who create the reward content for those systems.

Qualifications

  • Experience with many modes of online play
  • Experience with online incentives (achievements, rewards, economic, etc) and a passion for understanding what drives player behavior within them.
  • Solid math skills.
  • Command of Microsoft Excel.

Mission Designer

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Design Director, Mission Design Lead, other Designers, Engineers, and Artists to develop compelling experiences in our game world.
  • Work closely with Environmental Artists to construct environments and script missions and multiplayer spaces with our proprietary scripting language and toolset.
  • Evaluate gameplay pacing, flow, and difficulty curves to polish game encounters for an optimum player experience.
  • Document the design of and changes to your portions of the game to ensure smooth communication with other disciplines on the team.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience designing levels and scripting encounters for action games.

Server Programmer

Bungie Studios is looking for an experienced developer of server-side software to create and maintain scalable services to communicate with our games and our internal development tools. The Developer will generally use C# and SQL Server, authoring new tools and services and maintaining and expanding existing ones. Existing databases in this toolset have reached 50 billion rows, and 89,000 transactions/sec, so a firm understanding of performance and scalability is essential.

Essential Functions

  • Design scalable, reusable software pipelines for processing and exposing large quantities of data with the flexibility to adapt to changing interfaces as the game code evolves at the same time as the toolset.
  • Write clean, well-designed C# code to implement these original designs as well as to fit in to existing tools that need to grow over time.
  • Design and implement databases that scale without predetermined limit.
  • Investigate and keep up with new technology to identify where future projects can benefit from its use.
  • Work with the Operations team to ensure stable performance of user-facing server features in the datacenter.

Desired Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience with C# and SQL Server.
  • Experience with .Net Web Services or WCF.
  • Experience writing and shipping production server code preferred.
  • Solid understanding of database performance and tuning.
  • Strong familiarity with Windows server platforms.
  • Ability to do self-directed work as well as work alongside a team of other developers.

Software Tester (Contract)

Bungie seeks software testers for assignment on location in Kirkland, WA. Applicants must be detail oriented, organized, motivated, and capable of working with a team in high pressure situations. Must also be capable of working under development and test managers, able to closely research bugs, able to narrow down reproduction cases, and be ready to adapt to a fast moving, reactive, efficient work environment testing industry leading games and technology.

Essential Functions

  • Researching and reporting software defects (bugs).
  • Verifying and testing bug fixes.
  • Takes direction from and reports to Test Managers.
  • Must learn to operate and leverage test tools: Bug Database and other Bungie developed tools.
  • Execution of written test cases.
  • May be asked to assist leads with administrative duties.
  • May be assigned as a mentor / area owner depending on experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Flexible with work hours: Must be able to commit to 40+ hour weeks. Overtime availability and late shift availability are strongly desired.
  • Punctual in attendance and completing assigned tasks.
  • Strong comprehension of computers and videogame software/hardware.
  • Vast exposure to professional, high tech environment.
  • Leadership experience in test or similar technical field is a plus but not required.
  • Analytical thinker. Strong independent problem solving skills.
