Community Focus - SC_Slayerage

Apr 27, 2016 - Cozmo_BNG

Many of you know of the feats required to earn a Black Spindle Exotic sniper. If you have not yet attempted this endeavor, adventure awaits. It’s been described as one of the more difficult challenges in Destiny, one that requires a full Fireteam to be on the top of their game. There is one Guardian, however, who decided to go in solo.

Last week, he popped up again when his Fireteam posted the highest score in the Challenge of Elders. Please meet The Legend Himself: SC_Slayerage.

Tell us a little bit about how you fit into the Destiny community.

SC: My place in the Destiny community is sharing endgame strategies and tips. On stream, the majority of what I do is talk stats and methods with other Destiny players, so my channel tends to attract people who really know their stuff when it comes to Destiny, The Legend Himself as a Clan is about pushing endgame content to its limits as quickly as possible.

We have definitely seen some impressive stuff from you. Where can we find you on the World Wide Web?

SC: The best place to find me is at Twitch.tv/sc_slayerage, but occasionally I'll also post game clips or commentary to my YouTube channel, as well.

You were also the first player to solo the Black Spindle mission “Lost to Light.” Can you tell us about that, and any other amazing accomplishments?

SC: Soloing Lost to Light was definitely one of the more exciting moments in The Taken King for me. The fact that it was a hidden side mission - and a difficult one - really got my attention. It took a handful of attempts to figure out what enemies and obstacles needed to be prioritized so it could be done solo without getting torn to bits. I was also completely new to swords and the new Taken King weapons at the time, so my approach was pretty laughably reckless. Since then, I actually managed to solo the same mission without any deaths with 3 minutes and 30 seconds remaining on the clock, and I invited some players from the community at the end of those "speedrun" attempts so they could get a free exotic. I guess I was Black Spindle Santa Claus that day. I think I helped about a dozen people.

I was also first, along with my friend sc Furball, to two-man normal and hard Vault of Glass, as well as to solo both normal and heroic Crota's End. Other Clanmates and friends of mine, CommanderCuesta and TheGrreatGatsby have two-manned Oryx Challenge mode on Heroic. We have also done a masked (285 light) heroic mode King's Fall with a lot of extra requirements, just to really push our teamwork. All of that stuff is on my YouTube channel. Coming up with groundbreaking strategies is a lot of fun, but I definitely couldn't take credit for much of it by myself. We all enjoy strategizing.

I remember TheGrreatGatsby. He was also featured here for Soloing Oryx. Solo missions like that require careful decisions about your loadout. What are your favorite weapons and subclasses?

SC: Ever since I received the Twilight Garrison, I have loved playing any Titan class, particularly Striker. Their movement abilities are unparalleled and it makes them a ton of fun to play. Nightstalker hunter is also pretty cool, but it's hard to beat an airborne freight train. My favorite weapon right now would have to be The Last Word, but there are some close contenders like Raze Lighter and an awesome Shadow Price I got from a Vanguard package.

The Raze Lighter is a fine weapon indeed. What are your favorite changes in the April Update?

SC: 1:1 Light infusion is definitely my favorite change. The Challenge of Elders is an awesome direction to take the Prison. Playing with a scoring system against bosses is pretty much my ideal activity, and I don't see that getting old any time soon. I hope I've not seen all the bosses yet because that's my new favorite weekly reset activity. Chroma is pretty cool too.

1:1 Light infusion has been a community favorite. Do you have any future plans to attempt amazing feats in Destiny?

SC: I'll be figuring that out as soon as any new activity drops for as long as I play. For now, I'm just enjoying the new bosses and hopefully defending the top score titles in Challenge of Elders.

What else would like to see us add to or change in Destiny?

SC: If Challenge of Elders had Heroic Strike style rewards, I'd love it even more. I could actually go on about this question for a really long time though, as if I haven't already said a lot. I recently published a YouTube video where I talk about various things that changed in The Taken King, titled The Taken King Dynamics. There is a lot I would change and I think about ways Destiny could be improved for all players more than I ought to. A sizable chunk of which I threw into that video. Honestly though, with the platforming and gunplay being so fantastically designed, Destiny will always be fun.

I'd like if Imago Loop would go ahead and drop for my character with a Firefly / Outlaw roll, but I'm not complaining. I look forward to every new release.

Take some time and watch some of SC_Slayerage’s videos. You’re nearly guaranteed to learn something.

Who will be next? We're always on the hunt for more community leaders to be the focus of their own feature on the Bungie Blog. If you know of a person or group doing great things in the Destiny community, recommend them in the #Community forum with the tag #CommunityFocus.
