Community Focus - Mtashed

Apr 25, 2016 - Cozmo_BNG

We’re constantly on the hunt for outstanding members of our great community. When we find them, we pull them aside and share their stories with you. Whether they're entertainers, artists, or brawlers, they all share a love for the vibrant community that surrounds the game. Last week, RealKraftyy basked in the spotlight. Today, we have another highly skilled Crucible player who brings a lot of personality to his play. Please welcome to the stage the always entertaining Mtashed. Don’t let his wide smile and playful antics fool you, he is a deadly assassin in the Crucible.

Welcome to your Community Focus, tell us a little bit about how you fit into the Destiny community

MT: This one depends who you ask. Some people think I am a raging Scotsman because of my "super serious guides," others a "PvP Guru" because of my Crucible school. I'm just a random Canadian guy that got lucky online. I was aided by countless community members to get where I am, and feel blessed to be in this position. The goal now is to keep helping people to improve, and try to make them laugh from time to time.

A Canadian Scotsman? That’s quite a mix, where can we find you on the World Wide Web?

MT: I have a YouTube channel that has a mixture of content.

I'm a partnered Twitch streamer that focuses on PVP.

Oh and I am a bird

Looks like you’re another one of those “sweaty” PVP players, so what is your favorite subclass and weapon to use in the fiery Crucible?

MT: I have played everything and can never decide. I get bored if I "main" a class too long... but I'd say the most fun is Striker Titan. A good shoulder to the face makes for pretty cool clips, and the super is amazing for countering tough situations.

As for a weapon, I like to snipe. I am like a worse version of Kjhovey. I use the 1,000 Yard Stare because I couldn't snipe without major aim assist... and No Land Beyond because every kill feels rewarding.

NLB kills are the best kills. Tell us about your YouTube Channel. What kinds of stuff can we find there - weapon reviews, Crucible commentary, cooking shows?

MT: I started off trying to help players improve. The series that got my channel rolling was "Crucible School" where I talk about various topics to help players improve their PVP game. From there I started "Tips with Tash" where I take other people's game play, and break it down.
After a while I got bored with guides, and started making comedy videos.

I have made videos such as "Crocodile Hunter" parodies, "Scottish" weapon reviews, and my "R.I.P Mtashed" series where I showcase my worst fails in PVP.

If you are more interested in carnage, I have a montage for that too.

I’ve seen you play, you got some skills. Any quick tips for how players can “git gud?”

MT: 1. I recommend recording your game play and reviewing it. Many of the habits we create are subtle, and many of the mistakes in the crucible can be fixed. By going back and watching these mistakes, we can develop methods to counter them and improve. Playing 10 hours a day isn't how you get to the top of the scoreboards.

2. Play 3v3 game modes. I know Control and Clash is fun, but if you truly want to improve you need to reduce the players on the map. Unfortunately 6v6 doesn't allow players to learn proper map control, and the sheer amount of players makes the game feel sloppy.

3. Don't go on "tilt" - getting emotional because of a bad game will make your game fall apart. Take a rest, regroup, and come back to the Crucible when you aren't upset!

The less players you face, the more personal impact you have. That’s one reason Doubles feels so competitive. Do you have a favorite memory while playing Destiny?

MT: Many people don't know that I'm a young father. Raids are fun, PVP is fun, heck even dancing in the tower for 3-5 hours is fun... but doing challenges with my son is the highlight of my Destiny "Career". While sharing a controller we have beaten Raids, gotten triple kills with a sniper, and laughed until we almost cried. These moments will always be my favorite.

Glad to hear Destiny provides you some father-son bonding time. Is there anything you would like to add or change about Destiny?

MT: I refuse to beat a dead horse...
I refuse.
I will N----

PLEASE BRING US CUSTOM GAMES AND RANKED LOBBIES

The people that want to play "sweats" can be as sweaty as humanly possible before becoming a liquid. Casual players can enjoy the Crucible in a more social setting, and Destiny eSports may finally become a reality. This game has some amazing potential. As long as we dedicate time to balance and providing outlets for players of all skill levels to enjoy, Destiny will be a giant among PVP shooters.

I recognize there are limitations to what can be added at this time, but you asked. If that can't be done, can we have personalized emblems or something fun?

Never stop beating that dead horse. Actually you should never hurt animals, even dead ones. But please continue to share your feedback with us.

Mtashed has plethora of videos for you to enjoy, so go browse through his backlog and pick out a video or two to watch. If you want to see him in action, we’re also subjecting him to a Bungie Bounty this Friday, in which he will brave the Trials of Osiris with some members of the Bungie dev team.

If you have a player or group that you would enjoy seeing featured as a future Community Focus, please post your idea on our Community forum with the tag #CommunityFocus.
