Still moving up, even the rate at which we're doing work, which is great as we've had no new major contributors in the last few weeks. Still not sure when we'll cross into the top 5%, but I'm ready!

In case you don't have the slightest clue what I'm talking about:
[spoiler]
SETI@home is a program that allows you to donate unused processor time to analyze the mountains of data that SETI (the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) takes in about the radio waves running into our planet. It's free, you can control how much of your processor it's allowed to use, and it always gets out of the way of other programs. For more information, including a full installation guide, check out the group:

Nice, but why does this thread have a Half Blue/Half White shield?
-
I just am having a laugh at all the strange things that end up in the community threads. But each to his own.

Awesome!! I'm gonna start using mine again!!

I've been planning to do this for a while now, I just got my unlimited internet service again, so I will be there soon on that list.

What happened to these :(?

Awesome! Great to see little pockets like this springing up in the community. Reminds me of the old days. Maybe I'll grab some spare parts and build a SETI computer.

Edited by UphillMercury: 2/25/2014 2:46:09 AMAwesome job guys! For those of you who are apprehensive about distributive computing, the client used by SETI@home (BOINC Manager) is completely customizable, allowing you to allocate your computer's resources based on your desired performance. Furthermore, you are fully capable of doing whatever you want while the tasks run in the background, to the point where you can game with no noticable decrease in performance, as resources available scale based on the requirements of other applications. Finally, the disk space and internet requirements are trivial. The entire program, data included, takes up less than 1 Gb on my hard drive, and the only internet connectivity required is the uploading and downloading of completed and new tasks respectively.
