C.R.A.C.K.

or "Project Prevention"... An Interview with the Woman Who Pays Drug Addicts to Get Sterilized. Another lovely article by Vice.
In 1989, Barbara Harris founded C.R.A.C.K, or Children Requiring a Caring Kommunity, the program that would eventually be rebranded as Project Prevention, although it was never technically renamed. What they do at Project Prevention is, according to Harris, "work to get drug addicts and alcoholics on long-term birth control so they don’t conceive while using." How they get them on long-term birth control is, they pay them $300.
Yup. That's right. 300 bucks to not reproduce. There's a video in the link and an interesting interview which includes your favorite word, TROLLING. Well, what do you think?

    • It would be way cheaper to just make the crack supply lethal. Of course, then you'd run into the problem of crack addicts quitting crack as they saw fellow users dying off in droves. You can counteract this by "dusting" low-income areas with dust-form Po-210, or possibly ricin/anthrax if that's easier for you to get. Odds are you'll get all of them except the oddball high-income user or two. Of course, this still doesn't address the underlying problem, which is people having the option to do things you don't like. The best way to counteract this would be to construct numerous Pu-239 fission weapons and dope them heavily with Co-59. The extremely high fast-neutron flux would result in a large number of the Co-59 nuclei undergoing neutron capture, thus producing Co-60, one of the highest activity vs. mass isotopes you're likely to run into. Seeding the Earth with these weapons would render it all but inhabitable if done correctly, and the current state of human space travel/terraforming capabilities virtually ensures you'll have achieved your goals.

They should do that, but with non drug users too. Every government should offer a tax cut for sterilization. Only to those without children, though... Cause a lot of people get their tubes tied or a vasectomy after they've had some kids...
lol
• Man. Being a drug addict in the 80s just sounds so cool. $300 not to have kids? I DON'T MIND IF I DO

            • While I think these people should not have children at their current state, I think it would be better to get them off things like crack rather then give them money to buy more crack.

It's not really compulsory though, just an incentive. If it stops children being born into collapsed families of addicts then that's a good thing in my book, it might be an unpleasant/unethical idea to some but it would seem to be making a difference for the children who might have been born into hell. An interesting read either way, thanks for posting it.

                • Fine with me. The addicts are consenting to take birth control, and it's better than having them birth children with deformities.

The ideal of these drug addicts and alcoholic not having kids in interesting. That not a good environment for a child to be raised in. Mom addicted to drug and have to prostitute for drug money. however I am very against birth control, abortion and genetic manipulation among newborns. haven't had a topic that really got me thinking. Congrats I want to look into this more
