BNext Notifications - Chrome Extension Available

Look up in the toolbar and down the bottom in the image. - Shows total notifications up the top, unread notification count in a browser notification down the bottom (ignore the fact that I've already checked them through the globe icon on the page) - Possibility of the browser notification displaying a list with more specific information about each bungie.net notification - Clicking the icon up the top displays a list of bungie.net notifications - Updates fetched at customisable intervals, and notifications show up even when you're not using bungie.net etc...
Installation instructions for Chrome 1. Download the extension from here. If you want to verify it is what it is, the SHA1 checksum is c9b4c85ceb5d70b182b0629cf5e94168f1c876d6. 2. Next, open up the Chrome Extensions manager (Tools > Extensions) 3. Then click and drag the .crx file onto the extensions page until it says drop to install. If you're still having trouble, the instructions are basically the same as installing ProxMate. Permissions You'll get a popup telling you the extension can: Access your data on *.bungie.net Access your tabs and browsing activity These are both expected (on Chrome 35). Don't install it if asks for anything else because it's probably something else (although it's possible in different versions of Chrome they are displayed differently - use your best judgment). Basic usage - You really don't have to do anything. It will automatically check bungie.net every so often as long as you're signed in, but you don't have to be actively using the site. - Click the icon and you'll get some things to play with: notifications, messages, groups, search, and options. - Note: when you click the icon, the default action is to check what your notifications are, which is the equivalent of clicking the globe icon on bungie.net. This is why if you check either, you'll lose the counter telling you you've got new notifications (since you just checked them). - I've tried to support as many of the different notification types as I could but some may be missing. - The messages tab lets you send/receive PMs. It's fairly basic. - Groups tab gives you a single alphabetical list of all the groups you've joined/followed/founded. Clicking one will take you to its forum. - Search tab does the same as the search bar on the site with a little bit more chopping up of whatever you type in. - Options tab gives you options. Fair warning It's not perfect. There are most definitely some bugs in it. If you're worried it's doing something that it shouldn't be or that you don't want it to do (or you're just not using it any more), disable/uninstall it and let me know what's happened. Remember, the extension works just by doing things on your behalf as your currently signed in bungie.net account, but it doesn't do anything like posting, sending PMs, etc... without you initiating it (ie. for it to send a PM, you have to hit the send button). So use at your own risk, etc... If you're still not sure about it, I'll post the source code upon request for you to read and vet, or so you can modify it to your heart's content. Feedback, suggestions, comments, etc... much appreciated.
Options Currently logged in to Bungie.net as: shows the currently logged in account as display name (unique name) as detected by the extension when the options page loads. The link will take you to your profile on bungie.net. Your user status is refreshed each time you visit the options page. Network timeout: number of milliseconds the extension is permitted to make a request to bungie.net before failing. The default value should be more than sufficient that you do not need to alter this. Check user status: Enables the extension to automatically make a note of which account is currently signed in. If you use multiple accounts, you should definitely have this enabled. Check global notifications: Enables the extension to check whether you have new notifications. You'll want to keep this enabled. Check banhammer status: Doesn't work and won't work even if you check the box or alter the code. User status polling: How often to check which account is logged in to bungie.net. If you're frequently changing accounts, set this to a low value. Otherwise, the default should be sufficient. Global notification polling: How often to check whether you have new notifications. Banhammer polling: How often to sharpen your tools... if you have them. Display desktop notifications: Enable to receive Chrome desktop notification popups of new bungie.net notifications.

          • This is the kind of drop-down/popup display I'm going for and as you can see there's a bunch of stuff you can access at the bottom. The one thing I'm still undecided on is whether to include a news section as well, which would also show you notifications of new... news on the front page. Would anyone want/use this?

            • Bit of an update on this. - Notification list is a mirror of the list on the site. If you open up the list through the toolbar icon it counts on the site as you reading them too - Names of likers/repliers given where possible in the notification list - You can PM from the extension - PM conversations are formatted with your replies always on the left and others are slightly to the right - Groups shows a single sorted list of the groups you're following and have joined, all of which are linked - Search option gives results for users, topics, and groups. Users and groups are sorted by age. Topic search is based on chopping up the query into individual tags. Non visible stuff - You get Chrome desktop notifications if you are not actively using bungie.net. So if you get a bungie.net notification right now while you're reading this you wont get the taskbar Chrome notification, but you will if you've minimised the browser - Option to turn off desktop notifications - Option to adjust how often to check for notifications (1min by default) Next - Search function that looks through your PMs, groups, etc... - Notifications for news posted to the front page - Suggestions?

              • Interesting. Does this just run as a content script on a BNext page, or did you manage to find, store, and provide an auth token for ajax/jsonp requests from a background script?

                • Good to know that thing I made a thread about in Support got completely ignored that was just about enhancing how Notifications work, suppose the fact that something's happening is a consolation
