Did humans know about the Traveler before landing on Mars?
Did humans know about the Traveler before landing on Mars?
I say this because of several very reasonable reasons which are listed below:
1. The weakest part of the theory is that Humans would only go to Mar's them selves if there was a reason. e.g. Seeing a giant blaming ball!
2. The Traveler is massive and white and would be very easy to spot on Mars which is of course red.
3. The Humans landing do not set up a base, they just walk and walk in one direction and it seems they have purpose in the direction they are going. Why else would you randomly walk in one direction and climb up some random dangerous mountain.
4. The strongest point of all is that the astronauts are carrying WEAPONS ON MARS! Mars has pretty much been proven to have no life on it and there are much more important things to carry around than guns like say air! The only reason why this is justified is that Humans saw something on Mars sent Astronauts to go check it out and because it was a giant blaming ball they armed Astronauts with weapons just in case (Probably had a few nukes pointed at it to).
Note: (I am Australian so I am to not used to guns, plus Destiny is a fps)
So what do you think post your theory or completely disprove me in the comments below.

humans followed the traveler ........ because the traveler wonted to show the humans what the traveler could dew to save the planets and help man kind and animals evolve into something more

Additionally I didn't notice any National markings on the Human spacecraft or astronauts...only the isngnia of the Cosmo Drome, which is Russian. [u]So did the Russian Beat America to Mars[/u]??? Our Guardians are also located in Russia, Russia is the only known Earth territory in game. Is Russia all that's left on earth worth visiting? Can we assume that Russia is where the "Last City" is located?

Possibly the Traveler captured by a satellite or telescope? As for the armed astronauts; two theories. [spoiler]1: They (humanity/US/UK/Russia/whomever) were made aware of the Traveler's presence and sent a RECON team to Mars to find out what it was. Why only three men? You don't send all you have if they'll be whipped out by a superior foe; learn your enemy before attacking. Second, it very well could have been that humanity simply lacked the technology to send a large force. 2: They did not know about the Traveler. This was their first expedition to Mars. And as we're seeing more and more, hints at life - past and present - are cropping up all over our solar system. The taking of weaponry simply could have simply been an over abundance of caution; you'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. So what's the evidence of this? For me, nothing more than the way the trailer plays. It plays up the fact that we've landed, makes it seem as the next monumental moment in human space fairing history. With the words, discoloration of video, and the moment combined it could be that it is broadcast back to Earth - this last portion not likely though. Personally, I'm inclined to think more towards theory one, especially what with the Ghost Edition negatives of some spherical object. If they were taken (Traveler detected) prior to the Mars trailer, the whole expedition was more a military concern rather than a scientific endeavor. Other considerations: - Was this our first time landing on Mars? - Had we discovered life on Mars and elsewhere in the galaxy previously, warranting armed missions? - Has space become weaponized? Have global rivalries and conflicts expanded into space? It wouldn't be the first time. - Are the astronauts astronauts, armed with guns? Or are they military personnel who are responding to a military situation?[/spoiler]

You don't even mention the fact that they have guns. Astronauts don't use guns on explorations unless there is evidence that there would be something to shoot which if they are going to a barren planet like mars isn't very likely unless you take into account a giant alien sphere that appears out of nowhere suddenly in you solar system (which in turn would cause humans to investigate it and bring guns a a a back up in case it isn't friendly)

No duh they went to see what it was. In the beginning of the beta it showed astronauts with guns, we probably thought it wasn't friendly

Hence why they brought guns and we're on a specific path. [spoiler]Also, just because you're Australian doesn't mean you can't be used to guns or FPS, especially of you are a gamer :P[/spoiler]

actually if you closer you will notice that the astronaut checking his arm is actually looking at what could only be described as a mission briefing, including showing a image of the traveller, so they clearly came there to find it.

Yes. Clearly based on the story they did. They arrived on Mars armed. Why would they do that unless they knew what was there and wasn't sure of their safety?

They didn't know it was the traveler, they probably got sent there after notable huge disturbances were detected on mars- said anomalies were however blocked by an unknown interference (probably the traveler's way of protecting itself from the prying eyes of the darkness) rovers were probably our first choice but they too were knocked out of commission. So we sent a manned mission to determine what was happening on mars and thus we found the traveler.

7 RepliesActually it's been proven that they didn't. Grimiore cards. They felt a sort of pull towards mars and so sent a team to Mars to see what it was. They went prepared for an enemy, but found an ally. And they called it, the traveller.

Any question no you just asked, you also answered yourself. They knew, so they went to investigate. Even now we have the tech to see if there was something alien on Mars. Especially a small moon sized something. They went to check it out, and took some firearms just in case. I know I would.

5 RepliesRegardless. I suspect they were the earliest form of Guardians. There are three of them (3classes, 3races, 3man fire teams) I don't think it's a coincidence. This may or may not play out later.

Those three astronauts you see in the opening cinematic are there to investigate the Traveler. As a precaution, they are armed (wouldn't you be?).

Don't forget, the Astronauts are armed with automatic weapons, but no heavy weapons. They knew what they were looking for and knew that there could be possible infantry threats. The truth is out there.

I think so because they seemed to know where they were going. Also they were interested and probably did not know what it did but they would of reacted much differently if they were not expecting to find it

I also wonder if the mountain they r on is the mountain mentioned on the news. Scientist found a giant mountain on mars I recall

Perhaps the traveler was hidden behind mars, an object that large however would drastically change mars' and therefore our entire solar systems orbital pattern. Imagine adding a new moon that large to mars,

No, they decided to go to mars with space M4's for no reason. Yeah and satellite imaging just happened to miss the giant white ball floating about the red planet
