One of my goals for Destiny is to get really good with a sniper. However, i am AWFUL at sniping. I take far too long trying to line up the perfect shot and always die in the process. So i was hoping for some advice on how to improve myself. Any would be appreciated.

What works for me speed in my hunter. Run to an area I believe will be safe, slide behind cover, check for nearby enemies, stay crouched so I blink on the radar, and scope in an out to check my radar every now and then

Number one thing: Strafing. Number two: Be unpredictable. You don't EVER want to stand still sniping and ALWAYS be unpredictable. If they now where you are going to pop out at you are going to get shot. If you shoot them and they didn't die, rush them (if they are close enough) with your primary or use a grenade because they are going to wait until their shields recharge. If you pay attention, most people have patterns. They will keep going to the same spot, or keep trying to flank you, or keep trying to rush you just to get off a super. Don't jetpack to get away from another sniper. You are just a floating target. Get behind cover, in fact you should always be close to cover, preferably where someone can't shoot you from your left or right side. Kind of like a triangle. If you are point A and you are trying to kill point B, you want to make sure point C can't shoot at you by putting a rook or a wall between you and point C. Otherwise it's two against one and the odds of you dying are way higher. Save your grenades and supers for when people get to close. Switch to your primary(I use hand cannon) grenade them and a quick shot to the head. So always keep an eye on your radar. Probably a given, but shoot for the head. That's all I can think of right now.

One thing I always do is lead my shots. If someone is moving to a place, set your reticle to the place they will be and shoot when they get there. Don't get jumpy and shoot too early though.

I got a headshot and the player I killed wasn't even in the crosshairs. I wouldn't worry too much.

Bullet goes center screen. Put enemy head center screen. Bullet goes enemy head.

Its pretty difficult to learn while playing against other actual players so practive quickscoping on the darkness. Its nothing anyone can teach you you just have to pick up on it on your own.

Helps to use the left joystick for moving targets once the head is lined up you can move left or right very quickly to be lined up. If your constantly standing in one spot only using the right joystick to aim you can be slow. Try using both.

Edited by SubMariner: 8/22/2014 2:31:30 AMTry what they call 'Quickscoping' next time it's a decent method. I know this really good tutorial on youtube you can watch called Darude-Sandstorm

Practice on enemies like the dregs as 90% of the time they're ducking, diving and on the move. When they're moving in any given direction aim where the head will be. This is the same way I've practiced to get better at headshots. Best of luck with your practice.

Aim from the chest and above. Preferably around the collar bone you have a better chance of hitting the target and have also chance to head shot. Also for moving targets predict their movement and aim about two chest length ahead of them and shoot. Have multiple hiding spots within a map for clear long shots. Each time your detected move to the next stop.

Practice in pve the enemies wont try as hard to evade you and are easier to hit... Also they wont be able to kill you as quick as say another guardian in the crucible

Don't worry about these people saying to practice in custom games, moving targets that shoot back at you are much more difficult to hit than a barrel or a friend that's strafing back and forth. It sounds crazy but I actually tactically breathe when sniping. It lowers my heart rate and makes my movements more deliberate and precise. Breathe in through your nose, hold it for a bit, then exhale slowly through your mouth. If that doesn't help, then just aim for the head with a quick drag shot in the targets general head hitbox.

if ur takin ages to lineup ur shot ur reaction time is prob slow which tbh with u then u shouldnt be sniping if thats the case As a sniper u should be lookin for the quick headshot but if ur takin long to line it up then ur in for problems. Most of the maps arent big so its not like u can camp a long way off and have the time id suggest gettin good with the scout rifle learning how to get headshots quick with that gun and practice up

Practice a lot in custom games... ...oh wait

Aim near the head. Not at the head. The massive aim assist will get you the headshot.

But now my more serious reply; -Just sniping a lot will make you better, carry that thing around in PvE a lot if you have the ammo. -Make every shot count, bodyshots do a lot of damage. -Be patient, it takes time to get better. -Take some cover, don't run your sniper cross map, inside buildings etc. Only the very skilled players do that( and survive ). I'm not a good sniper, ofcourse I tried and practiced and I do got better but I'm still not there, sometimes I find myself noscoping a jumping target and moments later missing 4 shots on someone that barely moves. Not very constant plus I'm used to the Halo sniper and never played a game with ADS, so that left trigger aim is going to be difficult for me. Good luck

Step 1: Buy a sniper from the sketchy dude in the backstreets of the tower who said he'd give you a good deal on guns that totally aren't illegal. Step 2: Don't aim the gun the wrong way. Trust me, it took a while to figure that one out. Step 3: Found out you have limited ammo. So yeah... you have to buy more. That piece of knowledge would of come in handy when I was faced with a load of enemies. Step 4: Load it. Cock it. Shoot it. The law of the southerners. Final Step: Know what you're doing, cause I sure as hell don't. Who in their right mind would give me a gun. Crazy, the lot of em.
Posted this on a thread giving out sniping tips. This won't help though. But if you really want to snipe, play bf4.
Use not so much your right joystick to aim but the left one that moves your character, I find it much easier to line up your shot horizontally with the right joystick then using your character to literally move into the headshot, experienced sniper right here

I may be a little younger than you think but sniping is what I'm good at my GT is FlameWolf36

I've been a fairly successful sniper in video games for a while now, and the three major things I've picked up that are good for beginners to learn are; •ALWAYS keep your back to a secure location (I.E. A wall, friendlies, edge of the map) •Take every shot you can, I've watched people time and time again not get the kill simply because they hesitated, if you hesitate, you've got a 100% chance to NOT hit your mark. •Not every shot has to be a kill shot. It's okay to take a follow up shot sometimes, nobody is perfect and sometimes you're better off taking 2-3 body shots versus 2-3 headshot misses. Hope this helps, see you starside.

Its almost like halo 3 sniping, I was awful too but I began to lead my shots more quickly predict where the enemy is going to move next, as for quick scoping its not that hard all I can tell you is line your shot before you shoot and don't rush it you'll miss for sure. Everybody is different though you'll have to find a way that works for you :)

I think you aim the end at their faces. I could be wrong though
