Guardian Link- Episode 12, Survival

Jolt fell to the ground again, coughing blood. She shuddered, clutching her chest. The light had sustained her for as long as she had remembered. She was now experiencing mortality. "Guardian." Her ghost said, floating in front of her. Her ghost was noticeably shaken, but not in very bad shape. His shell occasionally drooped down a bit before righting itself. His voice sounded even more robotic, and a bit somber. "You need to eat. The light won't keep you alive anymore. I know of a bakery around this area. Keep moving forward." Jolt eventually reached the bakery, but it was no use. The building was completely blown to bits. She continued down the street, discovering vending machine that had fallen on its front. Broken bits of glass were scattered around it. Jolt walked over, grabbing the vending machine and pulling up. It was no use. Without her light, the several hundred pounds of metal wouldn't budge. Jolt looked around, seeing a popped bag of pretzels. It was half empty and mostly crushed, but she dumped it into her mouth. "Those evacuation coordinates are pretty far away. We should try to get out of the city, first. There's plenty of natural food sources you can snag and eat with your equipment and gun." Her ghost explained. "We should be able to get out of the city in eight hours' time, without any Cabal encounters. Maybe we can find a vehicle of some sorts?" "You're talking too much, Let's just focus on getting out of here." Jolt said back. Garret Garret yelled, surprised by the drop pod knocking him off of the plaza. The railing and platform behind him was already destroyed by a missile, letting him sail off of the edge. Garret frantically grabbed a thin area of the ledge above him, but it crumbled under his weight. His stomach dropped as he sailed off of the tower. He looked below him, shocked to see Jolt falling, too. She was limp, probably knocked unconscious by the drop pod. Frantically, Garret shifted his weight to fall toward Jolt, but he was met by a pole sticking out of the tower to his head, sending him spinning far away from Jolt. His vision went blurry as his head spun around mid air. He yelled in pain and his shoulder slammed into another pole. He had lost all awareness of his location. He hit a building, he must be close to the ground. He quickly put all the concentration he had into executing a double jump as he attempted to get his feet to face down. The sudden shift of momentum knocked his wind out, and he heard his spine break, but he lived through the fall. He fell to a street near the tower, out of breath. He felt his ghost heal his spine and legs. His breath shook as he slowly stood up. He was in front of the tower entrance, a few civilians were running through the doors. He noticed that there were several guardians around him, fighting strange looking Cabal. He reached for his hand cannon, but it was missing from his holster. "Fill me in!" He yelled to a nearby warlock, who had seen him fall and walked toward Garret. "We're under attack by some "Red Legion!" We're protecting incoming civilians, guardians are escorting them here while we hold the line, simple as that. I see you don't have any guns!" "Yep, pretty unfortunate!" "All transmat links are offline, but I was transporting a few guns before the attack. Go dig around that crate over there and get something. Take my sidearm if you get into any trouble." The warlock said, pointing to a nearby wall. Garret ran over, clutching the sidearm tight. He analyzed the Cabal as he ran. An explosion shook the ground. The Red Legion didn't seem to change the ranks much. His ghost tagged legionaries and centurions. The legionaries had some never seen before arc gun, and the centurions had some odd void cannon. "Aha, they still have solar shields!" He said, as he got to the crate. He grabbed the auto rifle at the top. He didn't see any special weapons. "Ugh, who needs crucible guidelines and vanguard handbooks in a time like this?" He said, grabbing a scout rifle as well. It was an omolon foundry scout rifle, and he saw solar rounds in its liquid ammo case. "Must be the new elemental rifles the city's working on." Garret said. His inspection was interrupted by a blast to his side from a legionary. He shot the legionary, running back over to the guardians and joining the fight. As Garret fought, he continued to wonder: "Is my fireteam okay?" Jolt The screens in the tech store lit up, startling Jolt as she walked by. They buzzed, static roaring across the screen. She heard a voice. "So, what do you think?" Jolt's eyes grew wide in shock. She recognized the voice. "Are you enjoying the little invasion I staged?" Tarantella. "Now, I know you're confused. I know you're thinking: wait, this is the Cabal! Are ya stealing credit? Well, now that I think about it, I can see why you'd think that. Anyway, let's just say the Cabal... weren't very smart in their approach. The satellites would have picked up the giant fleet incoming, the city would've been evacuated, and that just would have been boring. So, I tampered with them a bit. This sure puts a damper on my plans, but I don't care, as long as the city's out of my way. I've got important business to get to, but I just wanted to make sure I got credit. Seeya!" That bastard Jolt kept walking. She was going to kill Tarantella the first chance she got.
