Occupy May Day

First I've heard of this. Thoughts? Will you be participating...? Will it flop or be awesome? As a side note, I was totally not surprised Rage Against the Machine is going to be tagging along:
Planned events include New York's "Occupy Guitarmy," in which Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello will lead musicians from midtown's Bryant Park to downtown's Union Square
As another side note, I wish I had tomorrow off. Lucky Europeans. EDIT: Its May Day!. Protest time. [Edited on 05.01.2012 6:28 AM PDT]

They are just there to provide you with their advice. You can do what you want with it. They are not forcing you to do anything. In the end, people need to take responsibility for their own actions. You can not blame anyone for any decisions you made.
So how do we make the best decisions without the guidance of professionals?
Let me first begin with saying that a guidance counselor is far from a professional, but that is a whole other topic.
Then why are they there giving students advice on post-secondary education?
You make decisions based on what you want in life. If you want to attend school for four years then you should weigh what is important to you. Do you want to take out loans? If so, then you must think about how you will pay them back. Is there work in the field you are going into? What if I don't get hired after I get my degree? These are just some examples of things you should think about. You should do what you want to do. You should think of all the outcomes and weigh the consequences with the benefits. Do your own research. You could even ask a guidance counselor, but do what you want with their advice and realize that they are there to provide cookie-cutter advice and answers.
Yes, we are ultimately responsible for our decisions; I'm not saying we're not. The problem lies in that we were told that if we did x, y, and z, we would lead a fruitful life. Upon graduation, we're faced with the harsh reality that is quite the contrary to what we were told.
I agree with you there. These kids are taught in school that they can get a degree and be set for the rest of their lives. This is not true and students should be told about the consequences of different choices like I said earlier. They need to be taught that it is ultimately their decision and that they will have to take responsibility for it. The counselors should also let them know that what they say is not best for everyone. They are there to provide the cookie-cutter advice to everyone. [Edited on 04.30.2012 4:07 PM PDT]
