One of my favorite youtubers made a video on how introducing trading in the upcoming DLC will benefit the game AND increase playtime for all players. I also think it should be added, if you agree bump this thread so Bungie and others can see this. I encourage you to watch the video as the guy brings a lot of good points(Do note that the video is 13 minutes long), and if you can, share it with others.
Thank you for your time.
Edit #1: I appreciate the mixed opinions on the topic, keep on leaving your thought and suggesting how it can be viable (Or why there shouldn't be trading).
Edit #2: Nice, this post is now trending. People have different feelings on the subject, but most of them have good points nonetheless!
Edit #3: Okay, after reading a lot of people's responses, here are some of the methods many agreed on when trading gets added (Keep in mind, not all of these should apply):
*) Allowing members in the Fireteam in a Raid/Nightfall to trade what RNG has given to them, at a fixed time limit (60 Minutes sounds fair), and once the trade time expires, they can no longer trade with each other.
*) Exchanging Materials (Marks, Commendations, Raid Materials), and ONLY the same sort of Materials (Like trading Hunter's Material for Warlock/Titan material only, no trading it towards Shards/Energies).
*) Player must be at least a level 28 in order to trade.
*) Add more content into the game to make free trading viable (In otherwords, an exotic for an exotic trade, Legendary for a Legendary trade).
*) Introducing a Clan Vault to allow players in the Clan to trade with each other. Some have suggested to have new members wait for 30 days before they can trade, the same if they leave and wish to join a different Clan (A total of a 60 days gap to discourage farmers to sell exotics).
We're getting there Guardians, keep on leaving ideas to make it happen!

I've noticed that people frequently get exotic gear and weapons that they already have. A trading system would help with that problem. Though that's the only thing it would do for you. There's to many reasons to not have a trading system so I'd say just to add a way for the game to know which exotics you have so it doesn't give repeats.

Bungie has already come out and said that there will NEVER be a trading system. Basically because then you will have a 3rd party system where people will pay real money for exotics, also you will introduce scamming into the game and their biggest reason was that exotics will no longer be so exotic.
-
It would make the game horrible! You would just get people selling ghorns and IBs on eBay.
-
Trading would make the pathetic loot system more tolerable
-
Trading would ruin the game. The entire point of the game is to do nightfalls, raids and missions to get loot drops. Not to trade for the specific weapons and armor you want then go do nightfalls, raids and missions. Everyone would get what the want way to easily and stop playing.
-
If trading did happen, then as soon as it launched I would trade 1 Gjallarhorn for Red Death, and 1 for Mask of the Third Man
-
-
-
Yes, it only ruins it if you let it.
-
i like the idea of trading, it would let some guardians who have been getting many of the same thing to someone else who wants it and hasn't gotten it at all, also the clan trading would be nice and would add more people to trade with, i also think that with friends on xbox/ps4 you could add a storage area to put certain peices of equipment that you dont want and allow your friends to take it at will
-
a trading system already exists, but bungie removed it at the behest of activision.
-
Trading was in, they took it out because it would be an 18 rated game, activision wanted to sell more copies by lowering age rating

Edited by xXFIyingDutchman: 1/5/2015 9:01:43 AMThis definitely needs to happen, trading is a vital part in keeping alive the social aspect of the game, otherwise i see a lot people leaving destiny soon, there are a lot of great ideas as far as trading rules goes proposed by a lot the people who have posted about it, which could help bungie implement the system immediately, the people here have already done half the work for bungie, this would help fix one of the broken aspects of the game which is loot assignment during raids, I don't see anything random in the same person getting the vex mythoclast over and over in the vault of glass, I have a fellow clan mate who has 6 mythoclasts while other people we play with have done the same amount of raids or even more and still no VM, the same happens for other weapons, so, either bungie implements a trading system or make a lot of changes in the way loot is obtained, otherwise a lot of people are going to start dropping Destiny very soon.
-
We need an in game clan system and some form of in game party finder for raids/weeklies modes before we need trading. But I would welcome it i got a few doubles I been keeping just in case.
-
I don't know about trading but I do wish I could give some of my guns away to players who don't have them but I know would use them more than me.
-
I don't get why anyone wouldn't want this. How would trading break the game? I don't care what gun you have or how you got it. Why would you care what gun I have or how I got it? If it makes the game more fun for me and someone else because we both could get something that rng never gave us how is that bad? I'm all for it. I have my raid gear. I'm happy with the guns I have. There's a few things that never dropped for me yet I have gotten 8 husk of the pits. Give me a reason other than you want to be special or PVP to be easier for you? I do think if you trade for a gun you should have to level it up tho.
-
I would like the idea. Trade someone one of my hard light for red death.
-
I'd be happy with any form of trading. My friend got a suros from the nightfall and I got 7 energies. First of all: what the actual hell. I do the most difficult thing in the game and get the shittiest endgame rewards. And second, he already has suros. They need to take into consideration what weapons someone already has. He would have given it to me but he can't because bungie thinks RNG is a good thing.
-
Just have a set price for everything. It would take awhile but it would make players very happy.
-
People would just get the exotic bounty weapons and trade their buddies for the weapons they want and it would basically just be giving away exotics
-
No we really don't and to the people saying:
We need a trading system in Destiny!!!!
These guys are so lazy that they can't play the game to get better gear...just get real and face it... TRADING WILL NEVER HAPPEN!
-
Another thing they could do just to keep play time going is reset the gun's level progress after it has been traded
-
No. Just no. The majority of Destiny's player base can't even do the Crota raid without cheesing. Do you honestly think they wouldn't find a way to cheese a trading system?
-
Never gonna happen
