Do this at your own risk as it allows you to connect to servers being worked on and can, and has, resulted in players losing gear and/or entire characters from their account.

Proof or it just hearsay. Been working fine over an hour with no loss or disconnects.

Well, other than actually having a degree in this and knowing what I am talking about, the Proof is the glut of people reporting losing gear or characters yesterday and reporting it here in the help section. Invariably it came out that they used the MTU workaround to connect to the servers.

Cornwallis, I agree with Durandal. Generic Network Admin here; I would advise against messing with your MTU settings. Unless you have not that much gear you want to lose. Other than that if you have days and weeks of work done on your character I would highly advise against changing your MTU settings. Because it does have a fair chance of Sony blaming your account on accident. Essentially what you do not want to do is mess with that data, unless you do want to play, and not worry about your gear. Thank you for your backup on this Durandal.

Links please. You are not the only sysadmin on the planet either.

I dont think there is a web link for logic, reasoning from experience, and simply having multiple years of experience paired with an understanding of how server resets and maintenance are done, let alone how a ddos attack can affect data when they force one to go down. Wanna move the goalposts some more?

I am asking for links to the forum posts claiming to have lost items or characters. I would like to see what you are basing your diagnosis on. Switching an MTU to a lower number reduces the size of the packet sent. The more logical reason for a loss of items is a disruption of the connection to the server itself, not packet size. I highly doubt switching the MTU size changed anything. The more likely scenario is the PSN network going down intermittently, as was stated by PlayStation, causing the loss. A better response by you would have been warning people that a loss of connection to a live server will cause data corruption or a total data loss. Playstation may not have been ready for connections several hours ago, but now seems fairly stable. I would still not join a Crota raid or voice chat due to the intermittent status of the network. Telling them not to switch their MTU just because you say so is asinine and is begging for a good trolling.
