This works not as a cheat or a hack but because there is a poorly configured router fragmenting packets. One side or the other is likely discarding fragmented packets. (Between Sony and Bungie) It might increase the number of packets but it is a negligible amount and well within the TCP/IP specs.

But it is getting you into a server that wasn't accepting packets of the normal size for a reason. Doing this slows down their attempts at getting the servers working properly and put users who do it at high risk of losing or corrupting save state data and losing items or characters. People who have been losing stuff have had it happen because they are on servers that are having states rolled back and creating sync conflicts between use, PSN servers, and destiny servers.

All I can say is go check out the OSI model. MTU is handled at layer 2, which makes no difference to the OS of the server. The issues my be correlated but they appear to be unrelated. My guess is the attacks on the servers had fragmented packets so they started blocking them which caused the packets going through a poorly configured to be dropped. I am 30 year IT hobbyist and a 20 plus year IT pro. Yes that makes me old. Cheers
