Do you have any sense of game balance? I won't even touch on the topic of weapon balance. First, the SUROS Regime is an Auto Rifle, it is meant for close to midrage firefights, you are lucky that is do 63 damage to the last boss of the new raid. Second, what kind of damage are you expecting, honestly, I'm dying to know. There is a reason why PvP players are usually the go to part of the community in terms of weapon balance, they have a slightly more level head than PvE players, from what I have noticed on the forums, every PvE player apparantely wants every gun to hit like a ton of bricks from any range. If you want a gun to hit hard, you should never be using an auto rifle, that is what scout rifles and hand cannons are for. Auto rifles are for sustained DPS.
Now before you go and try to rip me a new a-hole, and say that I am a PvP whiner. First, I have 230 Story, 318 Strike, 5 Raid, and 285 Patrol missions under my belt. I only have 597 Crucible matches played. So a bulk of my time is actually in PvE. Now, you will probably try to combat that with, "But you only have 5 raids!" Yeah, I do, that doesn't actually mean anything, other than I haven't played them. A raid boss is supposed to be a big bad guy, that has better armor, and can take a hit, etc. I have no problem with the SUROS and how hard it hits, it hits fine, in PvE and PvP. The only problem I have with it is how stable of a platform it is. That is a debate for another time though.
In conclusion, you are either trying to damage your target from entirely too far away, or your expectations for the weapon you are using are entirely unrealistic. Either way, if you want to do more damage I suggest you use a different gun, or starting using SUROS for its intended purpose.

It definately feels a little underpowered in PvE, In PvP it's just another auto rifle, nothing special. (I don't have it upgraded)
-
I say just get an icebreaker and do 18000+ to the boss. Just saying
-
A blade of crota is a trash enemy, not the raid boss himself.
-
Your entire argument is invalid. He was talking about a "sword of crota".. Not Crota himself. One is a end raid boss..the other is low level patrol garbage.
-
Point still remains that an auto rifle is meant for sustained DPS, not powerful hits. If he is having problems killing one, he should probably switch guns.
-
Kinda feel like Crow when I say this but.. EVERYONE KNOWS THAT IT IS. The point being made is that if a weak enemy can withstand a full clip of sustained fire from what is supposed to be one of the best weapons in the game, that the dps that the gun is sustaining is not high enough to warrant the exclusivity of said weapon. And before someone jumps in telling the guy to get better and use a more "skillful weapon".. That defeats the purpose of weapon variety. I'm gonna go test now but I'm pretty damned sure my old new monarchy hand cannon doesn't have to unload a full clip to kill those things. And I'm going to stop you before you say " it's a heavy hitter " because I agree that yes, it is more so than an auto rifle. It also only has 10-13 size mag depending on your active perks vs the 25-60+ of an auto rifle.
-
If you want one mag of SUROS to drop a Blade of Crota, then I should be able to drop one with three head shots from my MIDA. The problem isn't with the damage the SUROS is putting out, it's with the level of the enemy which is obviously flawed.
-
How many does it take? With a 21 bullet mag seems around 6-8 would be about right.
-
More than a full mag, about a mag and a half. I'll have to double check later.
-
To kill the level 18 hallowed knight on patrol in the basement in Russia (no swords were around unfortunately) with red hand ix it takes 6 precision shots. Which with 10 rounds is 60% of the magazine capacity. So 60% of 21 rounded up is 13 shots. It should do at least that good against the same enemy being it's a higher tiered weapon than what I used. For the suros 60% would put it at 20 precision shots or better rounded up to the next bullet. I'm not factoring rate of fire as bungie already does that for us with its bps: mag size ratio.
-
I wish 60% of the mag dropped one of those guys from my MIDA. I will definitely test it out when I have the chance, at work at the moment. But once I do, I will post it. The big issue with the Blades of Crota is that they say one leve, but they are actually a lot higher level than the level indicator that appears next to their health bar indicates. A perfect example of this is the one Vandal in the Forgotten Shore that eats bullets for breakfast. That dude can take 6 fusion grenades and 3 mags no problem.

Edited by Forgotten: 12/22/2014 7:39:48 PMNerfing creates and infinite cycle of replacement in which noobs complain in attempts to nerf players like myself but will forever fail to do so. I think everyone would appreciate buffing lackluster weapons so there is more variety than less variety.
-
Buffing everything else creates more work than reducing the effectiveness of one weapon. From a coding standpoint, changing one thing is way easier than changing a few hundred. I'm not sure what reality you live in but this seems to hold true in a good majority of instances.
-
I know coding one thing is easier than coding more than one thing. I'm talking from a competitive player standpoint not a developers. Although that was obvious and I clearly understand both. Regardless again I rather have variety and so would everyone even if it is more difficult for developers.
-
I completely agree, have a wide range of things to choose from is wonderful. Varied gameplay is what the game should be about and desperately needs. Especially in the PvP area. But I think that an overhaul of how the weapons are normalized is what is needed more than anything. But at this point, that is unlikely to happen. Too many atuo rifles are too stable and far exceed their range, shotguns have entirely too much range, pulse rifles are nigh useless. I could go on, but I am sure you know, as you have seemed thus far to be a level headed and competent person.
-
Its because I live in the arctic, I have to be level headed to survive hahaha. joking aside I hope the bungie development team will do a reworking of PVE and PVP gear/weapon specifics in a sequel because right now the current destiny is best used as a huge distraction and tame gainer.
-
I completely agree with you on that one. Although it is a great social experience. Arctic, where you live? Canada?
-
Vermont on lake champlaign. Its about 5 degrees with wind chill and no sky for the past 3 weeks

I'll totally trade you. I'm originally from NY, currently located in NC. The weather here has been flip flopping all month. Earlier in the month it was almost 70, then the next day it was like 40. Hate the weather here. It can never make up it's mind.
-
I've been playing FPS games since doom, I know how to use my weapons. The point is that this weapon is worthless in PvE. I don't need it to be a one shot kill weapon, what I want is my suros to not be outperformed my a damn pulse rifle.
-
Also, what pulse rifle do you have that "outperforms" your SUROS?
-
Three little words.
-
Well let's compare the base stats from a data mine. SUROS RoF--------------77 Impact---------28 Range----------40 Stability-------82 Reload---------65 Magazine----33 Three Little Words RoF-------------59 Impact--------30 Range---------61 Stability------57 Reload--------55 Magazine---24
-
From this we can conclude, 1) Three Little Words does hit harder at a distance that is equal to SUROS 2) Three Little Words has less damage fall off than SUROS, when fired from exactly the same distance Does this necessarily make Three Little Words better than SUROS, no. There are a number of other factors that would need to be taken into account, such as weapon mods currently equipped, sight, and perks.
-
And once upgraded, three little words is better.
