To all you people redoing so you can do the raids more, do you have to do story and unlock the planets needed for those raids or can you just join people already in the raid?

no, as long as it is unlocked with one character, the rest can do it as long as your level is sufficient

Actually it doesn't even have to be 'unlocked'. I did the raid the second I logged on the day of DLC release. Also you don't have to unlock nightfalls and heroic. Just have a friend start it and then join their fire team.
