I don't know if you have played Borderlands 2. but basically like that. While playing the game you found different clothes and color options. And you basically used them like consumables. They unlocked a character option. Then when you wanted to customize the look of your character you had a list to choose from. You didn't have to carry around all the different costumes the were permanently unlocked. I posted a Youtube link if I didn't explain it well.
