The truth behind Trading in Destiny

To all the players saying that trading would ruin the game need to stop and listen. If you go back and actually watch the E3 trailer for Destiny and what was said by the devs, trading was actually an original part if Destiny along with player gambling. That is why the loot system is so broken. It was based on the idea of players being able to trade gear and items. That's why it is so utterly random. Most MMOs have a loot system similar to Destiny. You roll RNG once upon finishing a mission or quest, then would have to roll RNG again at a vendor or merchant to get the rest of your loot. Destiny's entire loot table was based on the idea that the players would be able to trade gear with each other. Shortly before Destiny's release, when members of staff were leaving and the game started falling apart, a lot of content got scrapped and nothing was changed to make up for it. Trading and gambling were 2 of these things that got cut. Along with maps, missions, playable areas, even an entire planet (referencing a trailer where a dev said that Saturn would be playable). So people that complain that a trading system would ruin Destiny makes absolutely no sense given the fact that it was already supposed to be in game. And to the players that say trading would make some players stronger than others, and therefore be unfair, I say, that's just how MMOs work. In an MMO, the player that works hard, trades for that one piece of armor to finish a set, and grinds their ass off, deserve to be better than the casual players that don't. That is just how an MMO works. I know there is a lot of criticism waiting on this post, but facts are facts. Edit- Thank you guys for the tremendous support of this article. I don't post often but it makes me happy to see so many Guardians that still care about the fate of Destiny. I never thought I'd make the trending list. Keep it up guys and hopefully we can make some headway. If not in this game, we can at least brighten the future on Destiny 2. Thank you for the support. Edit- To everyone that seems to have a lack of a brain and says trading ruins the game with gold farms and real world purchases, that isn't the only type of trading that can be done. There's an easy fix for it that would benefit those that actually need to be able trade. Like those that can't play 24/7 to farm materials and people that solo and can't raid for lack of people or time. The trade system Destiny needs would be a gear for gear system. Armor for armor, weapons for weapons, and materials for materials. Rares for rares, legendaries for legendaries, and exotics for exotics. Because I would gladly Trade my Thorn to someone with a spare Icebreaker.

  • Trading will NEVER happen. For the same reason that they haven't implemented raid/nightfall/weekly matchmaking. Bungie is doing everything they can to slow down player progression. People grind to get better gear. And it is a f***ing grind. But the pursuit of l33t gear is what keeps the player base chasing after the cheese. If attaining weapons and gear was made a lot easier with a trading system, people would get bored of the game and stop playing a lot quicker. Bungie wants to keep players on the treadmill until the next DLC comes out so they can make more money...rinse and repeat.

  • I'm torn on trading. On one hand it would be nice to swap items that I don't need for some I do. On the other...I can easily see the instant overwhelming amount of asshats selling things on Craig's list and ebay for real money.

Though I've been saying it all along the more I think about it the more it makes sense. That's why if you already have an exotic your more likely to get the same exotic on another roll another time.... So you can trade it for what you don't have. There will always be those who say it will ruin the game and yes I see their point . Doesn't change the fact that without trading your almost garunteed not to get certain weapons

        • they could add trading, gambling, new areas, enemies, raids, a better gear leveling system, more customization, match making, an actual econmy/living evolving world. fact is by the time they do it the division will be out and no one will care.

        • Trading = popcorn and guardian tear collection bucket at the ready. Can only imagine the cry-fest that would result. "Bungie- I accidentally traded my VM for a green Sahara pls fix" Lol

          • The truth behind raid matchmaking, it scares bungie because a group of randoms will crush all their precious streamers. Time to man up bungie.

            • As someone who never got their raid boots despite multiples of everything else and had to grind iron banner to get my boots for 30, I felt the pain. That said, in my opinion trading will ruin the game. I don't want to see the $50 for a 331 gjallahorn posted on eBay. Although the final weapon I need is an icebreaker (it has eluded me for a long time and is destined to be sold while I am xboxless on vacation for the next two weeks), I would rather work for it than be able to buy it or trade for it. That is why bungee moved to radiant shards so that people can hit 32 by grinding rather than praying for their raid boots every drop. What can you really NEED to to trade for that you can't grind for now?

            • People who don't want trading are those who have rare weapons and don't want other people being new and catching up with them.

              • Trading would ruin the game full stop , the only people to benefit from this would be the dole jobless retards who would farm then demand daft trades for items . #notrade

                • 1). You can't "Work hard" in Destiny. It's a video game. If you're working, you're doing it wrong. 2). It's an RNG-based loot system; you can't "deserve" something that's given at random. The game blatantly does not care about your "hard work." Neither do I. 3). Nothing you've said here is a "fact." It's a bunch of tin-foil-hat speculation and your (fairly pathetic) opinions about how value should be reflected by gear in a video game.

                  • The game relies on a grind to give players the impression of a full-length game. If Destiny had trading, there would be almost no grind and people could finish this game up and sell it back to gamespot in a week..

                    • I fully support trading in destiny with some control on what can be traded for what and how often. As well, some items would have to be account bound on pickup. Things like a mythoclast and raid gear for example.

                      • Totally agree we need trading put back into the game. Everyone talking about not working for this and that and too easy to level up this and that and how everyone would be running around with the same gear...uh don't we do that now? The only difference is player A has an exotic helmet equipped and player B has an exotic chest piece. At the end of the day no one pice of armor is the same aside from exotics and their perks. Stop whining. I'd like to be able to trade amongst friends I could give 1 of my 5 gjallarhorn to a friend who don't have one. Or 1 of my 4 icebreakers.

                      • Well I disagree with your statement as of the expansion raid gear drops most raids you are most likely going to get a piece every raid and u also are going to get a weapon most times from crota and I think trading would make it to easy for people to get 32 i just hit 32 after working my ass off and that's what it should take no trading or easy way out just working for it

                        • The idea of trading is very appealing but has to be executed properly. As it stands I have all 3 classes for grind runs, yet despite being able to smash the weekly and Nightfall 3xs every week, there is ascendant energy pouring from every orifice. A. Energy is useful, don't misunderstand, but not nearly as useful as say, Helm of Saint or Icebreaker. Pray to the gods though there's no micro transactions in the Destiny future *cough* warframe *cough*

                          • I totally misread the subject of this thread. I thought it was going to describe some horrific event when you tried to trade-in the game to Best Buy or something. I could have chimed in with my good experience in trading in the game, but I see you are talking about something very different lol! That aside, I agree with you.
