Matchmaking in the Raid is not a good idea. Take a look at the strike playlists. Look at how many people AFK during them to get the rewards without doing anything. Apply that now to the raids. What would it be like if the guy that was AFK'ing got teleported or was the last one that needed to get across the bridge? You can't boot him, even if you are the fireteam leader. Now think about how many ways there are to cause a wipe, and how many people would intentionally cause one just to troll the remaining members of the team. Remember, they can't be booted. So that guy that keeps on getting caught by the Gorgons and then laughing about it as you all call him asshole, gets to keep doing it until you all leave the game. Now let's talk about enabling the fireteam leader's ability to boot people. What's to stop the power hungry asshats from kicking the fireteam just as Crota or Atheon are about to die? I understand the frustration with having to post and hunt for fireteams to complete these 6 man missions. Believe me, if any one understands it's me. I have a lot of people on my friends list now from looking for teams, because my actual friends don't start playing until really late. Opening the raids up for matchmaking will not function the way that you want them to. Particularly when the trolls and AFK'ers find you.

"Take a look at the strike playlists. Look at how many people AFK during them to get the rewards without doing anything."
This is an issue with game design mostly. Strikes can easily be solo'ed, and rewards can be easily be reaped while AFKing. This is generally not the case in a raid. If you want to efficiently get rewarded you actually have to assist the raid and hit the checkpoints. Imagine if the "rewards" (if you can call them that) from the strike playlist actually came from killing the boss or after completing certain checkpoints through the mission. Would people still AFK in them? No, there would be absolutely no point. Same concept with the raid.
"Apply that now to the raids.
"Now think about how many ways there are to cause a wipe, and how many people would intentionally cause one just to troll the remaining members of the team. Remember, they can't be booted. Also, again, vote-kick.
"Now let's talk about enabling the fireteam leader's ability to boot people. What's to stop the power hungry asshats from kicking the fireteam just as Crota or Atheon are about to die?"
Once again, already can be an issue in the current system, and possibly in any implementation where players are in a group together. My answer would of course be, unless designated otherwise, it would have to be a majority rule vote to kick, not just one person. This point also seems to go against your previous points, in which you seem to favor a person being able to kick trolls (which is how it currently works) and dislike that matchmaking would potentially not have that feature.
"I understand the frustration with having to post and hunt for fireteams to complete these 6 man missions. Believe me, if any one understands it's me. I simply think there are better ways to allow players to connect with each other. Can you name many MMOs where just finding a party of like minded people to run content, you have to go to a 3rd party site PRIMARILY? I can't myself.
• Absolutely agree. The cons completely out weigh the pros. If there weren't little selfish clowns out there that find joy in infuriating people it might be a good idea. People really do ruin things
