To everyone saying it's too small: Thanks for explaining in more detail. To OP: After seeing more objects about the same size as Pluto farther out in the Kuiper Belt (think Asteroid Belt but at the edge of the solar system) they looked at their definition of planet and realized that it was incorrect and needed to be redefined because there were potentially hundreds or thousands of so called "planets" in the Kuiper Belt.
