Aim assist on an online console shooter is an absolute necessity. A controller is just not a precise enough tool. Add latency and you would have a very difficult time killing anything without the aim assist.

Except thats not true at all.

Lol just try killing a teammate in Halo. No magnetism, no aim assist, no sticky reticle... That's not how I wanna be playing. Call me a noob I don't care, but it's not like I'm the only one that can use it.
-
Just no, aim assist is the first thing I disable when the option exists. I don't want to win a gunfight because the game is aiming towards the guy I didn't know was around the corner and I don't want to lose gunfights because someone ran near my reticle and it gets pulled off the guy I was already firing at.

I played Counter Strike with a game pad and did a lot better than I do on this game. Just because you can't use a controller does not mean everybody has the same problem
-
Hmm, looking at your stats, it seems you do have the same problem of not being able to use a controller. I'm terrible at PvP, and somehow you've managed to be worse. Maybe you should stick to Counter Strike. - Der

Yeah, auto aim and lag kill me a lot in destiny
-
I feel you on the lag. So your theory is that auto aim makes bad players good and good players bad? - Der
-
It does mess up my shots a lot & made me kill myself with my grenade to many times
-
Someone has never played CoD apparently
-
Not exactly. Aim assist -blam!-s me up. I was unstoppable on UT3 and I would play without aim assist and without reticle (360). Any game that gives me the option, I take it off and I do SO much better.
-
Not everyone is using analog sticks. Mouse and keyboard options exist.
-
Disagree, Halo 3 had the option to turn it off and I was rank 50 doubles and slayer. Not a necessity, a burden to skilled players.
-
Edited by Cobalt: 2/25/2015 8:25:38 PMIt never had the option you dope. Unless you shoot at your teammates that often.
Edit: I saw your comment below.
-blam!-, I was thinking of MW2... which I played without aim assist.
-
Single player, you could turn it off. You could not turn it off for MP. - Der

Edited by Space Monkey 8: 12/17/2014 3:02:32 PMIt's definitly not a necessity. I play mostly on PC with a 360 controller and turn off aim assist and I have no problems. I think there should an option to turn off and it should always be off in PvP or have a mode without it.
-
Agreed in part, but it would be nice to have an option to tone down it's strength, it's way too strong when it is actually pulling your cross hair off target because something moved in the background. Not that I have much hope that bungie will add this option, hell can't even adjust the volume levels.

You can play most console shooters with a mouse and keyboard though. Turning auto aim off would be nice.
