My thoughts on the Bladedancer in PVP and why I still love it. What is your favorite class/subclass and why?

Below are my overall thoughts on the Bladedancer as well as a brief description of a few perks I use and how I choose to play. Unlike Titans and Warlocks, you can very rarely use your super as an "oh shit" button thus I have to rely on my chosen weapons and blink to escape dicey situations. There is a few second delay between when you active Arc Blade to when you can actually kill anyone which is how the other supers are but unlike Fist of Havoc or Nova Bomb you are required to aim in a much more precise manner and don't have much damage reduction. Anyone who aimlessly slashes around with Arc Blade is just asking for a headache. The only thing Arc Blade has up on any other supers is Hungering Blade which replenishes health after each Arc Blade and Blink Strike kill but without that perk you are waiting to be gunned down so using it is a must. This means that using "Stalker", which makes you turn invisible while crouched cannot be used. Also I choose to use "Fast Twitch" which greatly decreases the cool down of your melee, especially when stacking strength. This way I can take full advantage of Hungering Blade. This means "Escape Artist" which makes you briefly invisible after meleeing someone is also unusable. That is two different invisibility perks that I choose not to use over others that IMO are much more useful. Thirdly, "Shadow Jack" which increases the duration of invisibility effects is worthless, especially when I can use "Fleet Footed" or "Quick Draw". In fact the invisibility of a Bladedancer is garbage because you can still be seen since you are glowing blue. The only perk is not being able to be seen on radar which only works right before an Arc Blade attack when using my chosen Bladedancer build. I have tried using Arc Blade many times without the Hungering Blade perk active and I am easily put down by a multitude of different weapons, grenades or other abilities. Even the other Hunter subclass can easily deal with a Bladedancer who doesn't know how to gain the element of surprise. I have had many instances in which I active my super and have either run around looking for enemies but find nobody because they all hear me activate it and run or I am immediately shut down by either FoH or NB. Also, Sunsingers with Flame Shield and Radiant skin love to stand there and take multiple Arc Blade hits without dying while one shot meleeing me and Defenders love to stand in their Ward of Dawn with Armor of Light on and laugh at me while I hack away but end up getting shut down by a few quick shotgun rounds and maybe a melee if necessary. Every super can counter a Arc Blade but an Arc Blade does not work vice versa. Arc Blade always looses to Fist of Havoc. FoH is my worst nightmare. I have even had the opportunity to hit a Striker Titan 3 to 4 times while they are in mid smash but with their "Unstoppable" perk on I cannot kill them before they hit the ground. I have killed a few Warlocks in mid Nova Bomb but they almost always win, especially with damage reduction during Nova Bomb activation with the exotic helm Skull of Dire Ahamkara. The Sunsingers and Defenders are less of a hassle but if they have the right perks like I mentioned above they can still deal with me easily. Hunters are all about patience and time (see what I did there?). If you pop your super in hopes of escaping the oncoming horde surrounding you, you are going to lose 9 times out of 10 because every good Crucible player can hear the activation of a Hunter's super as well as tell the difference between the two. I use Vanish with Hungering blade which gives me the ability to run in without being visible on radar. This is the ONLY way I can get the element of surprise and guarantee a couple kills before being put down or running out of super energy. I have had many games where I don't even use my super during a match and get a 15+ kill streak because I chose to stay back and guard capture points instead of running in foolishly trying to slice everyone to bits. I almost always hold on to my super until an opportune time such as when my teammates get wiped out on a capture point and I know the odds of getting a FoH or NB in my face are slim because of either hearing them go off already or just the general feel of how my opponents are playing but there is always the chance of getting counter supered when you are a Bladedancer. An average amount of kills for me when using Arc Blade is between one and three. Four is rare and I have only gotten five one time. I have seen my fellow clan mate BigHossFaboss use FoH on the entire enemy team and get a "Reaper" medal, which I have yet to attain. I can understand that getting surprise attacked and one hitted by a Bladedancer can be frustrating and is very satisfying when on the right end of the blade. That is the whole reason I wanted to be a Bladedancer in the first place and have stuck with it since the beginning, unlike many other players who have realized what I am trying to explain and either went to Gunslinger or a whole new class. Although I feel the invisibility perks of a Bladedancer are broken except for the few seconds before an Arc Blade attack, Bladedancer is the perfect representation of my play style in any FPS. It reminds me of my Halo 4 days because I would always use the invisibility perk. All in all, it's all about the player behind the super. If you are generally bad at the game (which is ok, I'm not trying to belittle anyone here and say I am the best player around) and do not evolve to the play style of your enemy, you are going to lose no matter what. TL;DR? If you haven't played as a Bladedancer go try it out before you piss and moan about them being "OP". If you have played as a Bladedancer and still think they are OP then you are playing your other classes wrong. If you agree with me that Bladedancers are not OP and this game is all about the player behind the Super, hit that bump! What are your thoughts?

  • I play gunslinger, but I agree with everything except the aiming part. When I bladedance I just have to point in their general direction. That arc damage is fun in the weekly too :D

  • I like Blade Dancer for a few reasons: high base agility, blink, quick draw and invisibility after crouching. (Though I figured invisibility seems redundant and a time waster when using MIDA) The super can be nice but imo is kind of overrated.

  • Sounds about right. I prefer using razors edge, since I can take out multiple enemies at once
