Thorn is a great weapon for making players back down because of the burn. People usually aren't sure exactly how long the burn will last so they back off to make sure they don't die. It's also great for assisting your team because even a body shot will do considerable damage to help weaken the opponent for your team. That being said I still prefer TLW because I am a close up player.
