They did this because motes were easy to aquire and all you would have to do is buy an engram with motes and then get a free exotic shard.

Hardly. Motes are a little more common than Coins. Both can be earned by doing non-daily/weekly activities. So anyone can save enough to buy an Exotic item with Coins as well as Motes. Coins you can get far more readily by doing Weekly Strikes, 9 for the weekly x 1 hour per character. 27 Coins for 3 hours work. It's going to take you a lot longer to earn 27 Motes.

No shit, I'd rather see them just increase the cost, I'm in the same boat, saved all my motes for an engram, because I can't get a single -blam!-ing drop from the shitty RNG system. So what do I do now? keep playing the same bullshit over and over or wait till DLC then I can buy the highest light level? to me this is -blam!-ing stupid. Great gear should be earned, not luck or able to be bought. They -blam!-ed up trying to reinvent the wheel, and now they are seeing the aftermath of all the people bitching.
