Yes it is a(should be used as) support class (not a good enough one. I'd like to see group shield/health refill).
Radiance has the perk to reduce team mate cool downs to further the support aspect. Or revive helps keep the team alive longer when all three perish. Or the selfish over shield.
It also is really good at causing damage over time by using the ignite perk and the further damage enemies ignited. While radiance is active a solar elemental weapon will ignite enemies and cause damage over time!! Solar machine gun is a good investment.
Not to mention sticky grenades!
And the solar grenades paired with the exotic sun singer gauntlets puts on quite the show! :)
I'm sure I've left things out. At work so can't look it up. These are just off the top of my head.

Does using a solar weapon during radiance really ignite enemies? I've been using VoC with sunsinger for forever and I never noticed that

The solar weapons do the igniting themselves. Sunsinger can just manipulate it. I think it takes one of the perks, can't remember the name, it just increases the strength and duration enemies are ignited, the burn damage effect. Although usually I prefer just launching grenades and melee over firing :) I still need to get a solar rocket launcher!

No problem! Read it somewhere when I was optimizing my class to get the pvp part of exotic bounties :) now if only void had such a thing so I could finish off the thorn bounty. I'm not much of a pvp person :)

I did the thorn bounty in 5 rumble matches with voidwalker and a void shotgun. Almost everything you do gives you points. Even easier if you have atheons epilogue
