That's kind of what Bungie wants. You guys whine that there isn't enough play time. But now you're saying there's too much. You guys say there is no story, but yet there's Grimoire. You people talk about how guns suck because they can kill you, but you would use those guns anyways. Then those guns get nerfed and you cry about it. Come on people. Get your act together.

  • It's like I said to one other post. Who ever is Bungie lead at prolonging our average game time is a genius.

  • "... yet there's Grimoire..." Um, no. I should not have to load up a website and comb through a bunch of half-arsed wannabe Magic the Gathering cards to get the story. The story is supposed to be in the game, dumb ass.

  • It's called lore. Hahaha idiot. Yes sometimes there's a story outside the game holy shit

  • Well that's good since there is no story in the game.

  • Oh no, you have to expend a little more effort to experience a more thorough and deep story with consistent and various lore. Science forbid you actually TRY to enjoy something. Story isn't always supposed to be spoon fed to you like in your shallow CoD games. There are much more effective and appreciable means of storytelling, and the grimoire cards are an excellent example.

  • I have no problem reading lore (I play mostly RPGs) but I do have a huge problem with the lore not actually being accessible in the bloody game!

  • I agree, it would be better in the game. Even a simple vendor at the Tower would be a huge plus. You can't say it's not there to read though.

  • What if I have no PC to read it on? My phone is Windows Mobile and Bungie never gave us an app.

  • You can use any mobile browser. Any tablet or smart-phone could do it. Or, an Xbox 360 or Xbone possibly. They have Internet apps. I'm not sure if they need/have Flash. Also I'm pretty sure there is a Playstation equivalent. There are plenty of options.

  • Doesn't work on Xbox and who says I have any access to a web browser? Simple fact is that the "story" shouldn't be excluded from the game and require alternate methods to access about 5 written pages worth of plot just to comprehend what is going on... I don't have time to explain why I don't have time...

  •
who says I have access to a Web broswer
Quite frankly, if you don't have access to ANY web browser you're living in the past, and I don't blame Bungie for not trying to accommodate you. You're in a fraction of a minority. Plus, whatever you're using to communicate on these forums is likely able to view the Grimoire cards. I don't expect game developers to compromise their vision of their product just so every last person can get the full experience. Now, are you trying desperately to prove that Destiny has no story or that you not having access to it is unfair? Either way you're grasping at straws and it's getting old.

Both actually and neither is "grasping at straws." Destiny has no real story, Bungie admitted this and claimed it was so you could "make up your own story in the open world." The thing is Destiny is far from an open world. There are hints at a story but they are all related to the DLC; in essence they are saying "Well, we have a story but you have to pay $40 USD to know it." As far as the Grimoire cards go what you get there is back story which is quite a lot different from a principle story arc. There is no through point, there is no rising action, there is no climax, and there is certainly no resolution. Even if you want to suggest that this is because it's a "10 year plan" you have to realize that no saga that's split into pieces functions this way. Each entity in a saga has it's own story line, it's own plot, and it's own resolution. Vanilla Destiny has none of that. DLC has to function in a similar way. Take Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, etc. for example, all of them are RPGs and all have massive DLC but the main story is told to completion and each DLC pack has it's own sub-story that reaches a conclusion too. I'm a professional writer. It is my day job and if I tried to turn in a 10 page manuscript and say "Oh, well the reader will get pieces of it for the next decade after another $300 investment." I'd be laughed out of the office.

  • Hahaha, a professional writer, really? I'm disinclined to believe you have the knack. You've successfully debunked a strawman, the 10-year plan one particularly. I didn't mention anything about that silly notion. Additionally, I'd life a link to an official Bungie member making any sort of statement dismissing a veritable story. I'm not a 'professional writer' and I could write a full blown novel detailing the journey of Destiny's campaign. Your gameplay is the story, just like in the Halo series. Just because there's no abundance of flashy, cinematic narrative does not mean there is no intrinsic storytelling. It's a lot less passive but it gets the job done. You seem to just be stuck on the bandwagon of people that think they're entitled to the grandiose display of contemporary animation constellated with fierce dialog that has come to represent 'good story' nowadays, probably thanks to Mass Effect LOL. At any rate, you're not contributing much to the matter at hand. I won't continue if your apparent aim does not shift back on course, sorry.

  • Your game play of "go to point a, hear some dry voice acting, and fight off 3-5 waves of enemies" every mission? Every mission, if I may add, that does not connect to any prior mission except for the threadbare line of "Oh, I'm on Venus."? Earth had the start of a story and mission variety but then it all vanished. Anyone can see that simple fact. Every cinematic in the game past the intro is "Hey, here's a DLC pack we'll be having in 3-6 months. Buy it!" You would write the most boring novel ever produced if you think "stand here and shoot all these things" will entertain people. Finally, since you've decided to personally attack me and my profession you have been reported and muted.

  • So you're telling me that the Companion App isn't for Destiny and that I'm a dumb ass for not using my head to understand that the storyline is like a Souls story?... Makes sense. Except, not at all. Goddamn 12 year old.

  • Companion App? Hmm, what's that? Doesn't come on Windows Mobile so I guess that I am not allowed the story.

  • Also, the Grimoire cards are quite interesting. But you wouldn't understand, you're not a reader.
