Pulse Rifle = Worst Primary?
I don't hear a lot about pulse rifles, Besides Red Death.
In my experience, it's the most awkward weapon to be consistently good with.
We always hear about autos, hand cannons and scout rifles, but not too much talk about pulse rifles.
Am I sensing a trend? Is it just me?

Been a long time coming. The upcoming weapons patch, along with Bungie's stats clearly show that pulse rifles are the least favourite weapon and also most underpowered.
I've been kicking ass the oversoul edict. It's actually one of the exceptions. With the buff, this gun will rule the crucible and arc burn nightfalls

I have 2 bad seed downs and a super pov vlo. Not feeling bad seed, although they have good perks. One has full auto, the other has headseeker. I wish i had one with both.

My issue is the damage seems lower than scouy rifles overall, and missing with a pulse is more punishing than with a scout.
Scout rifles seem better than pulse rifles in every way.

I really wanted to love my red death, I really did! Maxed it out, but for me it just doesn't cut it. I'm used to the raw power of hand canons. I just got praedyth's timepiece and I hate it so far. In the process of upgrading it. I hope I can like it. I could see it being a beast in an arc burn nightfall though.

I've actually been playing with bad juju in the crucible, and I love it! Especially on bigger maps! I almost never use pulse rifles but you all should try it, it makes the PVP more fun IMO:)

1 ReplyThe M16 in a few CoD series overpowered everything because it was a twitch shooter. One or two bursts will most likely down a target at range. Now look at Destiny: Tracking Shooter. The skill curve for using a pulse rifle is insanely steep as compared to any other gun class in Destiny. What pulse rifles suffer from is the disparity between the user's tracking aim with the delay between bursts. It is hard to constantly sync with the soft auto aim tracker, controlling the burst recoil, and essentially resetting the aim for the next burst. There is also server lag compensation. Take bad juju for instance - 15 round clip, full auto bursts, and auto reload on kill. Its stats sound like an auto rifle, but just that slight delay can cause you to miss even an entire burst or two. More often than not, your clip would be near empty before you kill a guy. For now, I suggest you stay off pulse rifles until a much needed revision is applied.

My Red Death just delivers evry single time. Kills everything with like 2 perfect head shot bursts and three if not perfect. 4 at the most. So stable to me even when my Super Pox VLO is more stable and more range. But the rest just seem lack luster.

4 RepliesWith an exception (red death) i hate the pulse rifles, they have no place in destiny, scout rifles are for medium range to long range battles, handcannons are for medium battles and dumping damage into enemies, auto rifles are for medium to close up for dumping bullets into your enemies, pulse rifles are just.....eh. they have no real strength, no clear advantage. So...yeah....hate em

Worse? No. Most neglected, more than likely. The only Pulse Rifle I've ever used was the Strangers Rifle and that was because by the time I'd gotten it it was far better than everything else that was available at my Lv. I thought it was an okay gun, good damage, good fire rate, good range, good stability, overall it was a good jack of all trades gun with no obvious strengths. Problem is I wanted to use a primary that had more of a speciality, one that had its own identity and the pulse rifle felt to much like a compromise between a Auto rifle and a Scout Rifle.

They look cool, but up till now I haven't really used them. Autos and Hand Cannons are the two primaries that I tend to stick with.

1 ReplyI feel the pulse rifles require the most skill to be effective with. It mostly depends on making sure you are getting the first shot. There are lots of great pulse rifles though. The red death is pretty good, but i prefer the Fair and Square. Both can be a 2 shot headshot if you land all the bursts. Then, the fast firing Battlerifle style of the Timepiece and Conduit. You can do well with them if you can land headshots. I also enjoy using less used guns, more of a challenge in my eyes.

Idk about anyone else, but i love my Strange Suspect pulse rifle. Was my first legendary :) i remember way back when i got it because it was when ARs were so OP and i was bummed to get a pulse rifle. I tried it, and loved it

I got the Conduit from Nightfall on my hunter and it's actually not bad. Probably not enough to convert me from scout rifles and hand cannons, but I didn't hate using it like I did a lot of other pulse rifles.
