I don't hear a lot about pulse rifles, Besides Red Death.
In my experience, it's the most awkward weapon to be consistently good with.
We always hear about autos, hand cannons and scout rifles, but not too much talk about pulse rifles.
Am I sensing a trend? Is it just me?
Edit 3:
Been a long time coming. The upcoming weapons patch, along with Bungie's stats clearly show that pulse rifles are the least favourite weapon and also most underpowered.
I've been kicking ass the oversoul edict. It's actually one of the exceptions. With the buff, this gun will rule the crucible and arc burn nightfalls

I have 2 bad seed downs and a super pov vlo. Not feeling bad seed, although they have good perks. One has full auto, the other has headseeker. I wish i had one with both.
Edit 1:
Wow 45 replies!
My issue is the damage seems lower than scouy rifles overall, and missing with a pulse is more punishing than with a scout.
Scout rifles seem better than pulse rifles in every way.

Edited by Infernal_jayed: 12/22/2014 5:21:05 AMThere are a few good ones but overall it's a bad weapon class. Needs more love.

Was playing iron banner earlier and some guy had the bad juju...that thing dominates
-
The problem is that either have too little impact or too low of a rate of fire. They need both.

Pulse rifles get kinda a bad wrap because they are the most difficult primary to use. Auto-rifles are typical spray-and-pray. Hand cannons are your slow massive damage dealers. Scout rifles are your medium damage, high-precision ranged weapons. All of those are really easy to use for what they're good at. For pulse rifles to be effective, the user has the be able to not only get a quick bead on exactly the part of the target he wants to start his walk at, but has to maintain a firing arch for at least a split second to deliver subsequent rounds on walk-up. You can't spray-and-pray like with autos... you need to be more accurate to make each burst count. You can't just get one quick bead on a target and deliver massive damage like with a hand cannon. And you can't expect every round to go exactly where you want at any range as with a scout rifle. You have to be able to aim well AND control your shots mid-stream. It's too complicated for most players. But for the few of us who can do it consistently, pulse rifles are heaven.

Got Red Death about a week or 2 ago not maxed yet but pretty good so far, I wouldn't put away my VoC for it although it is still a very viable choice. I think it all really boils down to each person's preference. Definitely wouldn't rule out the pulse rifles though. Just not my cup of tea, would rather have a gun that shoots 1 round and does the same amount of damage as the burst from the pulse.
-
Depends how you use it. Primary, it is similar to marksman rifles, just with more recoil. If you are using it as an assault in close combat, you are dumb. Use it as a scout. P.S. Saying "wow this many replies" makes you seem like an attention whore.
-
Oh I like em for pve. Pvp is a challenge.
-
Pulse rifles take a good hand and control and once youve got that down you can out shoot anyone in crucible. Slow rof pulse rifle are 2 shot kills. High rof pulse are 3 shot Kills. Most people complain about a 30 round mag for pulse sating its to low. If tou dont miss a shot you can net 10 kills before reloading. Timepiece and strange suspects are monsters in pvp. I out gun suros, last word and thorn all the time

I've posted multiple threads in Balance/Weapons requesting a global Pulse Rifle buff. They are head and shoulders behind all the rest of the primaries. DPS, optimal range, utility... it gets even worse when you look at the perk tables for Autorifles compared to those of Pulse Rifles. You can roll a Shadow Price or Vanquisher VII with both Rangefinder and Hammer Forged (I have one). That AR has more optimal range than a Pulse Rifle, higher DPS, better ammo depth, better firing precision, and better handling with an ORES than a Super Pox VLO has with an IS. Pulse Rifles totally need buff. I'm not even a dedicated Pulse user (I'm usually rocking a Scout or Hand Cannon), but I can look at a pile of nasty runny brown smelly stuff and go, "Yep, that's probably poop."
-
I freakin hated pulse rifles. They were unusable to me. Until about a week ago (see wha I did there) I obtained super pox vlo. I LOVE THAT GUN! If you're aim Is right you can TWO BURST PEOPLE! The range and impact is amazing for a pulse too!
-
I think it depends on the perks. I really like my Bad Juju now since I have infinite ammo. I think if you can compensate the recoil, the triple shot will generally kill lower tier enemies in one go. Though, just like a hand cannon and hand cannons can have more kills per reload.

Timepiece is good.
-
I honestly see them as wasteful in time and bullets. I understand that the strategy to them is to aim centre mass and ride the kick to finish with crits but i dont feel like this is enough damage distribution in comparison to an auto rifle that i can consistently keep on an enemy's crit or a handcannon that will just 1HKO and clear a room in with as many bullets as there are enemies.
-
I like Pulse rifles
-
I hate them all except Bad Juju. I haven't used Red Death yet, though.
-
They are worthless and useless. I have bad juju, red death, and praedyth timepiece. I only upgraded the timepiece because it has arc burn and use it during arc burn nightfall/weekly heroic come. The red death and bad juju are sitting in my vault untouched. No thanks.
-
I have a Rare pulse rife that I use and it is amazing. Not level 20 yet though
-
Best legendary pulse rifle you can buy? Don't want to waste an exotic slot on Red Death.
-
IMO, yes. Whenever I try and use it in PVP, I get my first burst in but that split second that Im waiting for that second burst, is enough for the enemy to pop a couple of shots and Im dead. For the past two nightfalls though, I keep getting strange suspect ;-;

Edited by KezFam: 12/3/2014 8:03:03 PMTimepiece, nuff said.

Red death is the best pulse rifle and easily one of he best primary's.
-
Imo they aren't ideal. At medium/long range a good scout rifle is a winner. At anything less than medium range a hard hitting auto (Suros, Vanq8, etc) is lethal and more forgiving than a pulse. They would have to nerf autos into an even shorter range SMG category to promote a pulse rifle niche, which I don't support.
-
Red Death can be compared to Hawkmoon in its ability to 2-pulse drop someone. Any other pulse probably lacks sufficient impact for this. And rate of fire for lower impact pulse rifles is waaay too lacking... Even if they fired fast as u pull the trigger they'd still probably be impotent.
-
It's the worst yes
-
Edited by EddieXG1989: 11/30/2014 8:19:31 PMI like pulse rifles. I recenty started experimenting with them. It takes time to get used to but eventually they become effective like other gun types.
-
I used strange suspect for ages because it was the first legendary I got. Have it maxed and it worked well in iron banner on my 29 warlock (I didn't want to be that guy that only uses suros). It's also great in vog, for oracles and goblins and it hipfires well, although not advisable in pvp. Obviously there are better weapons but it's certainly usable.
