The people who play Destiny are awesome.

Tonight, I came back to my controller after a break. My Warlock was where I left him, in the Tower enjoying the lawn near the Postmaster. Seated around him in a semi-circle were three other Guardians. I broke into a dance and they leaped to their feet to follow suit. And, that's how I came to play a Raid with five total strangers. The simplest of interactions led to the most complicated challenge in the Director. Granted, we had plenty in common. We were all veterans of the Vault of Glass, with the exception of the one among them who was being taught the art of raiding in Destiny. I followed their lead while they explained the basics. The front door was popped in no time, and we were on our way. This was my (I think) 9th raid across two platforms - and the first time I had jumped into hell alongside unknown human elements. At every stage, patient tutorials were given. Death was met with words of encouragement and quick revives. These people were working together so well. Even teleportations that didn't go as planned were adapted to as they improvised to sudden shifts in battle conditions. In the end, we triumphed over evil. People like to talk a lot about this community. They say that we're toxic. They say it's too hard to find good allies. I don't believe it. I have invited many of you to play Destiny with me, and I've never been disappointed. Tonight, I accepted your invitation and it was awesome. Certainly, we can always try to be a little more excellent to each other, but you don't have to travel too far to find great people who need friends to join them starside. Sometimes, they're staking you out when you come back from post-Crucible intermission. Good games, wherever you are. Thanks for the boots and the shards.

  • Hey Deej do us a favor and create a "Let's Raid Area" in the tower which will allow for six people to link up and raid together. Do the same for the strikes you could call it Strike Team" that would be awesome. At least say or tell me why it wouldn't work.

    • This is why we definitely need matchmaking, because even though there's a high chance of failure, there's chancing of success as well. ---- Hey guys check out my short story! Destiny: Angel of Astana This short story is dedicated to the heroes during the Collapse. This particular one takes place in Old Russia (Present-Day Kazakstan) and how the colony ships in the Cosmodrome escaped.

        • Bet you didn't have to use a looking for group site. Struggling to find a group of like players, waiting 20 minutes to get 6 people together. (Done it quicker, but hell is does take time.) Again, another complete and utter refutation of what's actually happening in the community. We don't all get it as good as you you know.

        • It's good to hear. Good of you to write. Myself and some buddies had similar experiences :) And it's a good thing for you to experience that "randoms" (albeit a TEAM of randoms, you kinda were the real "random" in that group) can do the Vault, too. Still, I think something to enable people more easily to search for the "we're only missing one more" randoms would be beneficial for many. Less matchmaking, but teammate-finding. • I thought it was a pretty good post overall. Just a couple things...boots for a warlock? 16 runs and I had to resort to the Iron Banner to finally get some, I figured those things just didn't exist. Secondly how it started it with the character being at the tower at the beginning, I would love if that were the case vs being in orbit when you select from the character screen. At least for someone like me with 3 characters who has to go back and forth to the vault for weapons Im working on or use for the raid, robot dude to get bounties, and the cryptarch, it just seems more logical for that to be the starting point. Sure it would only save a few minutes but I know I'd like it a lot better, and I'd be willing to bet some others would too. I understand the need for the ship warp splash screen for back end loading of missions, but could you not start at the tower and when you hit the touch pad on the ps4 controller or the X button on the one (im assuming thats what it is) it would pull up whats displayed in orbit. Sure that's a massive change and would take a large amount of programming, but I see tons of posts here where people list massive changes they'd like to see and when I read Deej's post this came to mind for me.

        • I cannot get over how negative you people are. Guy posts a story about an enjoyable experience he had with random folks from the tower. Cue everyone talking shit and spewing garbage. DeeJ my first raid experience was with people that found me in the tower. So thanks for sharing your story. There's lots of stories like that.

          • .........the only reason people were even paying attention to you is because of who you are. Go sit in the grass with a level 26 alt and tell me how many great groups of people sit around you and can't wait to bring you on the raid. Lame.

I have a story for you, Deej. One I feel would be cool to possibly add to the game. Thousands of years ago, the first aliens arrived on Earth. When they arrived they met with the humans who at this time were barely creating the first forms of government. One of these civilizations were the Aztecs. In the alien meeting between the Aztecs and aliens, the Aztecs were given plans to build pyramids. The Aztecs were convinced that the aliens were bringing good tidings. They described them as metal men. These aliens were the Vex. After this the Vex asked the Aztecs to begin construction of the pyramids. The Aztecs had no idea why. These pyramids were asked to be built by the Vex so they could return in the future, when the Darkness was sure to be stronger. At this point in time, humans were still very gullible. The Vex had said that they were their gods. The Aztecs believed everything the Vex had said. So they built them. On they final night the Vex had stayed on Earth, Atheon's second in command, Delpheon, spread poisonous air throughout the land of the Aztecs. He also put crystals in each of the pyramids which would create a portal for them to return in the future. Once the Vex left, the Aztec civilization slowly died off, leaving no evidence of the Vex's arrival. Now, in this time, so many years later, we have discovered this portal. But, the crystals aren't just located around the pyramids. They are scattered through all of Old Mexico. And that's all I've got. Any feedback? Basically, what I'm saying is that an Old Mexico map would be awesome. There's so much alien lore to work with and new ideas to use. So, I truly hope you guys at Bungie consider this. Thanks for listening. ~Hitako :-)

                • Deej I think you should play a series of raids on both difficulties with each console. If you did that you could meet all aspects of the players. Answer random VoG posts and play more. I think if the community got to play with developers in all game modes not just crucible and not always being on the same console might restore faith in the community

                • DeeJ could you please consider giving the Monte Carlo a buff for PvE? The impact is far too low and it takes for ever to kill enemies with it fully maxed out even.

With respect, there is more in the game than the Raid, and most of us barely play it - or get to play it. Most of us do not play the Raid regularly, and most of the high end gear and easy access to Ascendant Materials is in the Raid. The Raid gets a lot of attention, certainly because it's working, despite being tailored a bit too strongly for the hardcore minority, but it is still this one little niche of content and it is still locked behind grouping up. Bungie's dream Gamer Buddy Group is continuously catered to in this way, and the dream Gamer Buddy Group is not most of us out there slogging through the dust of Mars or the green of Venus just trying to scrape together some stupid freakin' materials to buff our chump non-Raider gear. With respect, enough about the Raid. Please. Spread the love, and maybe the loot, a little more.

                    • A great story but as someone who is exceptionally hard of hearing I find it impossible to get involved in the raids which is equally not Bungie's fault nor Destiny's I just find myself frustrated and stuck with 3 level 29 characters looking on in admiration at their shiny out of reach weapons and armour. As I said not a moan it's a great game just not all of us can be the greatest.
