Tonight, I came back to my controller after a break. My Warlock was where I left him, in the Tower enjoying the lawn near the Postmaster. Seated around him in a semi-circle were three other Guardians. I broke into a dance and they leaped to their feet to follow suit.
And, that's how I came to play a Raid with five total strangers. The simplest of interactions led to the most complicated challenge in the Director.
Granted, we had plenty in common. We were all veterans of the Vault of Glass, with the exception of the one among them who was being taught the art of raiding in Destiny. I followed their lead while they explained the basics. The front door was popped in no time, and we were on our way.
This was my (I think) 9th raid across two platforms - and the first time I had jumped into hell alongside unknown human elements. At every stage, patient tutorials were given. Death was met with words of encouragement and quick revives. These people were working together so well. Even teleportations that didn't go as planned were adapted to as they improvised to sudden shifts in battle conditions.
In the end, we triumphed over evil.
People like to talk a lot about this community. They say that we're toxic. They say it's too hard to find good allies. I don't believe it. I have invited many of you to play Destiny with me, and I've never been disappointed. Tonight, I accepted your invitation and it was awesome.
Certainly, we can always try to be a little more excellent to each other, but you don't have to travel too far to find great people who need friends to join them starside. Sometimes, they're staking you out when you come back from post-Crucible intermission.
Good games, wherever you are. Thanks for the boots and the shards.

Edited by Dead: 11/30/2014 5:02:53 PMThe people who play Destiny are awesome, but the people (besides a few) who go on this forum are toxic degenerates. I've received many death threats, many people telling me to commit suicide, and many personal attacks. Why? All because of my opinion on Xur, which is that he makes exotics to easy and needs to be removed/changed.

I met a Titan on the blind watch map and went to say hi and shake his hand, then he punched me in the face and started dancing. What a jerk
-
Thanks, you're not bad yourself... I think=)

Edited by DoktorBoar: 12/1/2014 10:23:24 AMToxic players? do you realize how the wow-inspired game mechanics in Destiny actively feed the toxicity? guilding and raiding are the reasons why mmos lose long-term popularity. The drama, the drama, the drama. It burns people out fast! The raid is as lame as having to do group work in school lol. Destiny was my first "raid" and I'm already over the concept. Just let Destiny be a world we can escape into for a bit without intensive social wrangling. But don't get me wrong, I like gaming with real folks a lot in pvp and pve and most of the time it's fine. Just don't need the contraptions in old wow-craft that allowed and encouraged the worst kinds of behavior. There's plenty of literature on the subject available. Just google "mmo bullying" Game designers have powers to control what kind of worlds they create. Destiny could've done better. If all else fails, always give players the freedom to be their own team and go solo. You make us "need" other players, but other mmos have always ended up proving that we aren't ready for that yet unfortunately.

Bet yall cheaped the bosses huh.

Edited by JLakaPanda007: 11/30/2014 2:23:54 PMI don't want to be a stick in the mud but.... You're usually spot on Deej. This time? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh not so much. This screams of a ''REALLY GUYS, THIS COMMUNITY IS NOT TOXIC. FOR REALSIES!" attempt. The community IS toxic. Just pick a topic, any topic, and you'll see toxicity of all kinds. This forum is the ID for the Destiny community...and it's not a very good one. Doesn't help when people rage quit in the crucible, go into strikes waiting for the others to finish it for them and other crappy behavior. Just go through a few of the threads on Xur day. ''OH MY GOD, NOW X EXOTIC ISN'T AN EXOTIC. GG BUNGIE, NOW I DON'T FEEL SPECIAL'' ''HOLY CRAP, NERF THIS NEW EXOTIC. THIS IS SOME BULLCRAP, NO SKILL LOSERS CAN NOW PRESS TRIGGER TO WIN.'' Plus I haven't forgotten how a lot of people reacted to someone getting Fate Of All Fools. That doesn't mean that there aren't good natured people in the community, it's just that they're as rare as getting a legendary engram drop from random enemies. I've had good experiences with people in this very forum, with randoms and fellow guardians ingame. Hell, I frequently run with Couch Potato GAMers (the clan i'm in) AND Thorny Guardians and it's all been positive and super fun. I've even had unplanned farming runs (or farming trains like I like to call them) with randoms, communicating with gestures and whatnot. All of these good experiences (and others I haven't mentioned) are eclipsed by the community in the forums and ingame. It's the truth, sadly. It's not exclusive to Destiny though. Humans that gather in groups will always be awful. That band you like? Has a contingent of awful people in the fanbase. That other game? Ditto. It's just gonna happen. It's just really bad in Destiny.

Hint: they were sat around you because you are Deej. Implying it happens to everyone = lol
-
Got time to write this but not a proper weekly update ;)
-
This is also awesome
-
Deej, per my grimoire, I have completed the raid 21 times, 95% with randoms met on here and similar sites. Very doable.
-
Deej your posts are giving me gas. The 'Mary Kay Sunshine' routine is flat out...uh, well.. It's creepy. Stop the faux romance and just put your posts out plainly. The ' spin' tone you put on your posts rings of corporate turd polishing.
Some people who play Destiny are awesome.
Fixed it for ya, No charge.

Edited by DoktorBoar: 12/1/2014 8:15:41 AMThere are lots of nice folks, but you need to make some changes to improve how the rest of us can meet up and let others know which activity we want to do! Or just make matchmaking! The lfg floods that leak everywhere where destiny is mentioned on the internet are getting extremely annoying. Nobody needs to be spamming lfg posts when it can be fixed with in game matchmaking. This game has a #recruitment forum but still lfgers spam the shit out of all of the boards. It's a mess!
-
God gave rock and roll to you....
-
Yeah i'm sure the fact that you're deej had NOTHING to do with any of that. They weren't waiting for you so that they could brag that they did a raid with deej from Bungie. And they were most definitely not on their best behavior so as not to offend you and have you leave.
-
Yea right like anything you say has any merit. I've never done a raid because my friends were smart enough not to purchase this lie. I didn't believe the hype and I was still let down
-
Did they use tower chat to communi... Oh. Never mind.
-
This has everything to do with you sitting on the lawn and nothing to do with "DeeJ_BNG" as your name right?
-
Edited by pollodiablo82: 11/28/2014 2:44:44 PMWhat!? You completed the raid with randoms?! You yourself said the raid wasnt do able with randoms. It wasnt how the game was supposed to be played! Thats we reason we Dont get matchmaking in the raid right? So i guess you changed your mind now? Everybody wants matchmaking to be an option give it to us! Because your name is known people come to you for a raid, while the rest is stuck on some third party website trying to arrange people for hours. You sir, just shot yourself in the foot with this post
-
Deej, You telling us about you adventures is awesome. I just love how Bungie employes are not so different from us. Can't wait to hear about you next adventure into the wild.
-
Sounds to me like you're trying to make an excuse for the lack of matchmaking.
-
Excuses deej? Matchmaking is a need. Its not like people still can't use recruitment forum.
-
Edited by Coyote_Joe_304: 12/1/2014 1:02:05 AMKudos to you sir for going in the raid with em and proving this community isn't completely toxic. These forums are the best/worse part of the game. With as much bullshit that gets thrown your way in these forums, that chance you took could have ended with you walking into a shitstorm. While none of us are privy to the details of the conversations yall had, it seems as though it was a good experience. Your level of trolling can only be matched by Ed Boon's. That took stones DeeJ, it's examples like this that give me hope for positive steps. Raid on bro, hope to see you in the Crucible one day or randomly in the Tower. Also, it goes with out saying, please don't pay any mind to those crying for matchmaking. I know you've been blown up by comments requesting it, but I want to say that would be a can of worms no body wants opened, and there's a larger number of players who have enough foresight to not throw that into the hat(inbox, baloon, paper shredder?) of suggestions.

People still play destiny? That's so September ninth.

Edited by Garcia88_: 12/1/2014 5:21:42 AMWell I'll be sending you an invite on 12/9 Or when next IB drops
