If you don't raid you'll definitely be stuck at something, you won't be capped.
Raiding is very easy. I assume you play the strike playlist. It's no more challenging than that after you've run it once or twice with a friendly team showing you the way. You could very easily play normal and hit 30 with an exotic helmet and never go near hard mode.
Hard mode is just for people who collect loot really. There's no functional reason to go there unless you want the Vex Mythoclast, Fatebringer, Foil or a raid helmet. The Sparrow is meh, especially since you can make a DIY sparrow or just get the much more fun Tumbler.

I do do the Strikes, but I always solo Heroic and Nightfall, simply because I can do those at MY pace, I have gone with randoms but it becomes too painful trying to play at the "normal" pace. I have watched a ton of videos of both easy mode and hard mode raids, I physically would not be able to do those! I wish I could! and who wants to be the "idiot that keep dieing and wiping the raid?" I need to play at my pace not the pace of a raid mob. I am not really that bothered now about raiding, I'm resigned to the fact that that will never happen, I just wanted to know if I can finally get past 30 really, (my next post in a few months time will be me complaining about being stuck at 31 and a quarter for months and months lol).

Edited by Kriegar3: 11/27/2014 11:09:43 AMI agree with Ratchet love. the raid can take 35 minutes on normal, it really is very quick and easy to complete now. Nightfalls take longer. Even if you died every time the remaining 5 could complete it no problem.

Don't put limitations on yourself... I would gladly go at whatever pace you need to help out. Raid is quite possible easy or hard. Each checkpoint being around 10 min find people who don't have a problem with patience
