You're just contributing to the sexism by speaking about the sexism. If we ignore (like racism) it'll stop. If people can just tolerate and out number the ignorant, we can win. Don't address it, don't reply to it, don't even look at it.

  • This is potentially the most dangerous and idiotic thing I've ever heard. Ignoring something does not make it go away. Ignoring racism or sexism only makes those sprouting the views emboldened; "no one can stop me." If you stay silent when you hear/see something, you're part of the problem and not the solution.

The problem with not addressing something like sexism or racism is that people with the opposite view will still address it, so if we would stop ultra liking about it neo--godwinslaw!-, the KKK, and every other intolerant group would have the floor all to themselves, able to preach to impressionable sheep. If we show people how backwards inequality is, and treat anyone with that viewpoint as scum, that might make them feel bad enough about their point of view that they start to re-evaluate their values. Sticking your head in the sand has never "solved" anything, others just cleaned it up for you

  • I disagree. Like racism, it's something you can't ignore, but when people don't look for equality but restitution is where it begins to get out of hand.

  • Lol if only it were that simple. Hard to ignore racism when you live in it.

Seriously? Slavery in not only America but in other parts of the world wasn't addressed for a long ass time. Do you honestly think ignoring it solved the problem? No. If we had it your way African Americans would still be working in plantations. Racism is deeply tied to classism. Do you think those who are poor and in horrible conditions get better by being ignored? Do you think people donate to charity and rally to causes by not hearing about them? Please go take some history classes and check your privilege. Change doesn't happen by doing nothing. I'm not sure how daft you can be.

  • Holy shit, first time I've been told to check my privilege. Which should I check first? My white privilege or my thin privilege? Okay here's the first problem with your statement. You compared actions of slavery to racist words used by mostly the older folk. You've also just assumed I'm a huge racist who's all for slavery, you've assumed I'm white, you've assumed I'm upper classed. Only one of those are correct and it's not racist or upper classed. You know why I say to stop talking about it? An African American himself has spoke up and asked people who want racism gone to stop talking about it. He says he doesn't even want a black history month because it makes no sense to have a month dedicated to blacks. You've made assumptions about my race, my well being, my education. Now tell me, who's the real racist?

  • The only assumption I actually made was white. Rest wasn't relevant. The assumption that you were white was made because you are clearly ignorant about what you are talking about. I didn't say you were a racist that's all for slavery- I said by ignoring racism/classism slavery would still be a thing. There's a difference. And I'm not comparing old white men making racist slurs to slavery. I'm comparing it to how the justice system is racist as all hell. Take ferguson. Take every black kid whose been shot over nothing where a white kid walked free. There are huge flaws in the system. It's both racist and classist. And you are ignorant if you think ignoring it will fix the problem.

well. his assumptions are spot on, it'd seem. when assumptions are correct, it's not racism... it's just guessing who you are based by the character of your post... in this case he was right. someone who thinks to cure racism, you must ignore it...... has never experienced true racism. and probably should educate themselves further. so, privilege... check in need of education..... check hammer, meet nail. plain and simple dude.

  • He's not right. The only thing he got right was me being white. My family is poor, we're barely scraping by, and my education is descent at best. The man who stated racism should be ignored was none other than Morgan Freeman. An African American who's experienced much racism in his life, no doubt.

Okay, so because a person is of a certain skin color, they're an expert on the cures to racism? again, you've never dealt with it. ignoring it does nothing but allow a person to think it's alright.... that's basic common sense. all you're doing is proving the guy right, sorry.

Ok...I'm not gonna be a dick here but how do you know that he hasn't experienced racism? I'm going to assume it's because he is white. That being said. If I am wrong do correct me however. I am Caucasian and live in an area where aboriginal people are dominant. And I was beat, verbally abused, had death threats. And was ignored by the adults when this was going on all through, my jr. Sr. High years. All because I wasn't aboriginal. Racism happens to everyone my friend....and no ignoring it doesn't solve the problem. But celebrating it like a victory doesn't either, not saying you shouldn't be proud. Just saying to be a victor there had to be a loser and the losers are always sore.

  • But rioting in the streets and destroying property is NOT the way to bring about change. Oh BTW. The evidence shows the guy was hit in Ferguson. It also shows many of the witnesses couldn't keep their story strait. I'm not saying the officer is right, but you don't attack someone in authority. Respect begets respect

  • You mean how white people can easily blow shit up and riot over sport events and it's all laughs but black people hold up signs and peacefully protest and they call in the military? That is R A C I S M. I spelled it out for ya, hope it helps. And no, he wasn't attacked. He had no injuries to prove it. The paramedics even asked "where?" Because they didn't see any sign of it. Anyone with a brain can see that this whole thing was rigged. Look into it.

  • No that isn't alright either. Whites, Asians, blacks, whoever. There were injuries. And all an officer had to do is feel that his life is in danger yo use deadly force. Don't call me a racist. I'll be the 1st person to tell you that I have no clue what it is like to be a black man in this country. I know there are stereotypes and such. The first thing we have to do is admit that there is a difference. Maybe if there was a dialogue where people don't throw out the you're a racist card whenever we ask or say something looking for clarification. We need to start acting like HUMAN BEINGS and quit looking at the color of peoples skin.

  • Didn't mean to call you racist- I meant that racism is white people being able to trash cars and stores because of a football game where black people protest and get killed.
