When I shoot you...
It's because I've found something you'll probably want.
Note - If you are easily upset, you may not want to read on. This post contains details of someone being a horrible bully.
Last night, on patrollings, I find a chest. RNGsus has been very kind to me recently, so I'll grab every chest possible.
I spot 2 guys with similar gamertags about 50 mteres away, obviously in a fireteam, and I think to myself 'Hey, wouldn't it be the friendly thing to do to alert those two guys to my find, one of them might get a nice present from it'.
Just being a thoughtful Guardian like so many others I have met.
So,
'CombatNun13 waves'
'CombatNun13 waves'
'CombatNun13 points'
Nothing. Fair enough, they haven't seen me.
So I shoot one of them.
He stops and turns to me. Then walks away.
I shoot the other one, who also turns to me. He sends a rocket my way. Explodings.
Still looking at me.
'CombatNun13 points'
Then I shoot the doorway to the room with the chest in.
Still looking at me.
Goes into pause menu.
'New message from (can't remember his name)'
'Stop it. We don't f***ing want to play with you'
Whaaa?
So from now on, I will wave and point. Then I'll shoot you. Then if you don't come over, I'll get the chest myself.
If you aren't familiar with this kindness, if a Guardian is waving or shooting you, take notice, they're probably helping you :)
It's just so tough being a good guy sometimes :/

1 ReplyI found this trying to figure out why people were shooting me. Like raveun2me said, I assumed the shooting was aggressive. I interpreted it as, "Get out of my way, I'm working on something here." Granted, it was two people who just came up and started unloading on me...

Most ppl will take shooting at them as an act of violence. You went above and beyond to be a nice guy. Was it worth all the effort? If someone is in my immediate area, like 50 feet away, I will try to alert them WITHOUT shooting at them. If they don't see me I move on

5 RepliesHad a similar experience when farming helium. But after several attempts of alerting this guy (level 10) he saw the chest and proceeded to follow me on my chest run to gain 64 helium. He seemed greatful as he spotted a chest i didnt and alerted me in a similar way. I waited for him to catch up before opening chests and vice versa. There was a strange silent understanding between us. Friendly salute and off he went back to orbit. Nice when you find like minded guardians!

I've done the same and got messages like "Why the -blam!- are you shooting me" when I explained why he was actually very kind about it. People seem to expect everyone to be an asshole.

3 RepliesDo you know that place in the Cosmodrome where you have to wait down two steps for the fallen to spawn after a few seconds? I sometimes farm there a bit. Often I'm joined by others. That's good as if I miss a vandal/dreg the other guy(s) will get it. But one day lvl29 turned up and just stood at the top of the stairs preventing any respawn. So to try and point out that he was stood in the wrong place I pointed and waved. He kept turning to look at me but then turned back to look at the place where the fallen weren't spawning because of him. So I shot (The Last Word makes a lovely noise!) at the bottom of the stairs to say "don't stand up there, move down here". I didn't shoot at him, I shot away from him to try and say "you need to move down here". Again he ignored it so I tried again deliberately shooting down, away from him, not at him. At this point all hell broke loose and he just hit me with every round in every weapon he had. I just went to orbit. I guess he'd probably still stood there wondering why nothing is spawning!

Dude tell me about it. I usually never get anyone in the same instance as me, but when I do, they never get the hint!!! Like dudes I don't want to play with you either, but there is a chest here! If I wanted to play with you if have sent you an invite or a message asking to join you. Shit, bros, get over yourselves. Probably worse than I am anyways, friggen douches.

Shot in the direction of a player (party of 3) and pointed at the chest on a ledge on Venus. Was then pummeled with rocket fire. I kept pointing. They all came up and got the chest. Then I was invited to their party chat and was completely befuddled by how to do it on XBox One. Started to get audio and then got lost looking for any option to join. Seems like saying launch would have done it, but I had no clue at the time. So.....much for that.

Thank you. Geeze it's ridiculous how oblivious people are. Day one when someone did that to me I knew they were trying to show me something. I do it all the time and most people get it but some dudes keep on going and miss like 4 chests when I shoot them 10 times then shoot in a direction

2 RepliesYou did good, they were jerks. However, if someone doesn't get the hint after the first "wave and point" and I don't see them coming my way, I just grab it and move on. If someone is already chest farming I'll follow them, if no one is, I'll be polite but carry on with my own farm run. Chests spawn quickly enough, and I have never seen anything better than blues come out of them so I probably don't have the same enthusiasm to notify others where they are that some do.

I've been there, too. People don't think very hard about why I might be trying to wave them down, it seems. But they frequently get upset. Enough times, in fact, that I've given up trying to go out of my way alerting others to a chest. I'll point and wave, but if they don't come running within about 5 seconds I'm done. It's just a chest after all.

3 Replies9/10 people I encounter while doing my chestruns don't get the hint when you point, wave and shoot. Sometimes I wonder what these people are doing there...A couple of hours ago I was running around in the Scablands to get some relic iron and at one point I found a relic shard, pointed and waved and someone who was also just running around there just walked past it by a couple feet, not paying any attention to it. Same thing happens all the time on all planets/farming routes. Do these people think they have enough of that material? Don't they want to get a chance at a lucky chest? I don't think you'll ever have enough of a material unless you don't ever want to upgrade new weapons....

I run into these all the time. I'll be out and people will shoot at me. First I think I've run into another camper that's pissed that I'm in their chosen area. Sadly half the time it's not a friendly communication attempt.

Lol I do this all the time. I try it all, wave point shoot dance...some ppl are just oblivious, though yours was just plain stupidity of those two guys.

If there's someone nearby, I'll wait a little. If they don't come any closer, I just grab it. No dancing. No pointing. No shooting them to get their attention. If you're within range of my tracker, you have five seconds to find whatever it is I'm about to grab. If you don't see it or act like you aren't interested, it's not my responsibility to flag you down.
