Fellow Guardians, WOW! Thank you All so much for all the Upvotes and Signatures, this thread took off like a rocket and I cannot express how thankful I am, you're a great bunch of people :)
(Please UpVote and Comment "Signed" if you want this to 'Trend" and be seen by DeeJ etc)
Nobody enjoys doing hours of farming SpinMetal, Spirit Bloom, Helium Filaments or Relic Iron
It takes 64-80 of these materials to fully upgrade a Legendary or Exotic.
This equates to the farming for the almost a hour.
In the late end-game most players will need to put in about 10+ hours of farming.
I accept this is part of the RPG-MMO game style put we’re approaching South Park “Killing Boars” in WoW magnitudes here.
Why can’t we receive a percentage of the Materials we’ve spent in return for dismantling an upgraded piece of gear.
Even a token 25% would be better than nothing, it would help the end-game in all the right ways.
An amount like 50% would be great but I doubt this will happen given how the rest of the upgrading system works.
33% would be extremely fair, still require a decent bit off farming but not completely ruin the late-end game experience.
To have a decent PvE and PvP load out takes almost 1,200 Materials.
That’s 3 fully upgraded Legendaries/Exotics in each of the 3 weapon slots.
6 fully upgraded pieces of armour (say 2 different exotics for an alternative PvP load out or alternative Exotic to suit your 2nd Subclass).
Come on Bungie, with the DLC launching soon there are gonna be a lot of very annoyed level 28+ players who spent many hours getting high level gear.
That gear will now be redundant (if we ignore all “you can upgrade it further” speculation).
We’ll have players (myself included) with all sorts of Raid gear, Iron Banner gear, Queens Wrath Gear (haha) and Exotics.
The least you could do is give us a decent portion of our Materials (and Shards/Energy) back.
Please sign, like, bump, upvote, whatever this thread if you’d like to see it addressed by Bungie and the Community management team
Added a poll so you can vote for what percentage you think we should receive when scrapping gear.
Good Luck out there Guardians.
Thanks in Advance GenericDreadHead
Edit 1: Spelling and so forth :P
Edit 2: The Zero % Option edit. Wow, ok seems like I'm getting a lot of hate for the Poll options, for what it's worth I tried editing the poll to add a 0% option.
Guess what? I can't edit it, so.... sorry about that. Really the idea of the Thread was to get "Signatures/Bumps" and "Upvotes/Likes" to keep it trending, the poll was merely an after thought and not put in with a "Add every option under the sunsinger" attitude. It was, if you "agree" with the concept of the Thread, you could add some self expression by picking your preferred solution. You will also notice I did not add a 100% option... or a 12.5% option, or a 75% option etc. I'm absolutely more than happy for a Mod/Admin to step in at the back end and add a 4th Poll option for 0%. Sorry for not having considered the 0% option, as you will see the other 3 options were in my thought process when I wrote the original post. Thanks for your feedback, at least nobody died..... yet... >:-|
Edit 3: Ok..... jeez louise... look I realise that DeeJ and Co would have listened to my idea even If I was a sole person saying what I'm saying, that's whats good about the community. What I was trying to convey in the original post was a singular straight forward fix to what I and many others perceive to be one of the biggest mis-steps in the games flow of excitement (farming).
I'm sorry if this kicked off any other petitions or just added to an existing petition problem.
What I saw, when I saw a lot of other posters suggestions were, and I'm going to be brutality honest here:
Posts asking for about 7 big changes, the kind of things that would be realistically over maybe 4 patches. I may be in the minority here, but 1 thread per suggestion would catch my attention and could clearly convey it's message.
Also, some of what was being asked for was very subjective, I tried my best to be as objective as possible, taking my own personal annoyance at farming and stepping back and trying to focus on that being a possible problem with the games mechanics and less of a "dag nab it, I just hates me doing some loops cause it's all up in my business for 20 minutes".
Also, I saw a lot of "Xur should or should not sell this" and "This gun and that gun should be buffed/nerfed".
There are some great threads with some really great suggestions (see the thread to enable to edit character looks etc) but they were buried in the likes of the above mentioned.
What I'm trying to say in hindsight is, in my long winded way, I maybe should have left out the "Petition" part and just said, "Do you think?" and give Yes, No and Maybe So Poll options, but well, here we are now.
I realise my voice alone would not have been unheard, I just kind of hoped maybe some like minded voices could gather in the same space together.
Also thanks to everyone who pointed out recent comments by DeeJ and co where they say they are address the Farming and Economy.
This is very welcome news but I was just trying to create some urgency I guess. I mean they also said Thorn would be buffed ages ago :D
Finally thanks for all of you with you patience and understanding and ,from what I can tell, little or no trolling :)
We've all made mistake on internet forums, if I could turn back time and edit the thread I would.
So much love for this forum and community right now. Group hug? Anyone? Telekineses Hug maybe? :D

I don't need petitions to listen to you. A good idea that no one else agrees with is still a good idea. Love, DeeJ From the man himself.

I agree. Lately there isn't much to do except max out all of my weapons. The only bad thing about doing this with the 13+ maxed weapons so far is that I know eventually I will want to make room for another DLC weapon...and I would have wasted a ton of materials upgrading all of these "first batch" weapons. It would be great to get half of the materials back after all the time I put into each weapon to upgrade it to it's max.

Personally as someone who works Graveyard shifts and 10-12 hours a day, and drives a hr home to work you cant expect me to sit for several hours for mats.... at least a exchange rate would be nice.

Signed. More worried about ascendant materials than farmed materials. 50% of those back would be nice. Especially after finding better gear and no longer having a use for the old upgraded gear.

I can see a "Moderator replied" tag for this post on the main forum, but unable to find the actual reply. What was it?

Yes bump I need over a thousand helium alone. I'm no -blam!-ing getting that shit.

Edited by cyrus f51618: 11/27/2014 10:29:10 AMYou forgot one thing: Destiny doesnt really have a lot of content. So how do you keep the little piggies playing? Right by letting them start all over again as soon as they get the shiny new armor. For this reason they certainly wont change the system.
-
Edited by Kriegar3: 11/27/2014 8:33:52 AMBounties should reward some materials too and random kills should also drop loot. Have ground spawn engrams (from kills) also have a chance to reward ADDITIONAL material drops to the weapon or armor you will no doubt destroy anyway (note: add option to auto destroy greens). Material matches planet you're on, surely the enemies also need materials so they might have them on them when they die? I've also suggested, I think, the idea of Super Nodes. So the regular ground spawn Spinmetals, Heliums, Blooms and Relic Iron nodes all have a chance to spawn a giant version that rewards 10+ of the material. This will make farming them a little more tolerable if Bungie stick with that idea. You can get super chest that drop weapon snthesis and 10+ materials, blue engrams and such. Why not have super material nodes?
-
Bump. Energy and shards I'm against having returned the planetary material should be considered.
-
I think you should be able to visit the Gunsmith (weapon) or Vanguard Handler (armor), choose the weapon or piece of armor you wish to dismantle and have ALL materials returned to your inventory. Now that's a fair economy system!!! I assume Bungie set it up like they did so that players would have to play/grind the game constantly in order to attain upgrade materials, but it get's REAL OLD, REAL FAST grinding that crap out!!! If we could re-coup our materials, we could try out more gear that we normally wouldn't because of the investment to do so. Is that too generous, Bungie?? I think not. I agree with this post, as would most players, but to have a FULL return..not a percentage.
