PS3/4 or 360/X1? If it's PS3/4 they have a little more issues with the connectivity (from what I hear) than the 360/X1. My connection isn't the best, but I sometimes have to reset it to keep my connection up, and my friend who has a X1 doesn't have too much lag either. =/

When I go onto any other online games connection stays up no issues. Bungie please sort this out as I am enjoying this game an the only bad thing to say about it is the connection. Both of us on PS4's btw.

I think it's a mix of Bungie's servers aren't prepared for the mass amount of people playing and the longetivity of those playthroughs, and the fact that the PSN has been/still is being hacked by some group of morons.
