You shouldn't spend money on a game and then internet connection to play this game if you have problems even buying some food, you should get some priorities. You bought: A console (to play the game) A game Internet connection (to play this game) A device that supports the Destiny app

  • Implying poor people can't spend money on anything that isn't food. He said he saved up for the console. Nothing wrong with that

I'm sorry if I offended you in any way. That was not my intention. And if you experienced that comment in a negative way I am truly sorry. I wish you the best of luck.

  • There's no need to apologize to someone who made their own mess. If I could barely afford to eat I'd never have bought a PS4 in the first place.

  • He said he scrimped and saved up. Poor people need entertainment as well, and shouldn't be shit on for that. Considering a console can get about a decade of use, has the ability to replace cable TV, a home theater system, and a PC in minor tasks, it's not a bad investment in that situation.

  • "Spend almost as much on rent as internet" Spending that much on Internet is absurd if you're in a bad financial state. If he's making minimum wage he isn't breaking 28 hrs a week, unless he has two jobs, with the new laws that force employers to give you benefits if you work too much. Plus, a ps3/360 works fine, is cheaper, and still has a few years of life left.

He could be renting a room for 100 a month and his internet is 60 for all you know. Considering that the Internet is pretty much essential in modern life, it would hurt him not to have it, and he would be limiting the hell out of his upward mobility chances by not having it. Making minimum wage doesn't mean he is only getting 28 hours a week. Larger chains pay minimum wage and offer the lowest benefits they can by law. A new PS4 that is at the beginning of its life is $450. It has more to offer than a $150 end-of-its life PS3.

  • Okay, let's go with 36 hours. I think that was the previous bar for benefits. That equates to 1044 a month, assuming he's at minimum which is 7.25. Now let's cut out 33% for taxes, 699.48 is his monthly profit minus Internet and rent, which is 160. 569.48 is left after all that. Now let's set aside 80 for power and 15 for water. 474.48. Let's assume his car is paid off but he has to spend 20 a week in gas, not a terrible amount honestly. 394.48. Now, we have almost 400 dollars a month left. It'd be a much smarter choice to choose the PS3/360 to play the games for the next few years to cut down on cost, plus older consoles have bigger sales on games, til you buy a next Gen console. That leaves plenty of money for a decent meal. Rice, some veggies, Ramen noodles, beans, and the occasional mark down steak and chicken tossed in.

  • Your figures are all over the place and quite inaccurate/ baseless. Why would a poor gamer, who is likely to use his console as his only form of entertainment, after saving up to buy one, buy a PS3. It's losing support, has very few new releases coming out, old hardware, and is only $200ish cheaper than a system that is looking at a decade of new content.

  • Actually all those figures came from people I met working at a grocery store. All of them have a base in reality with people in similar situations. You're talking like the PS3/360 are losing support within the year. There's over 160 million units of old Gen consoles and not even 20 million current ones. It'll be years before support is dropped and they're still receiving almost every new release. 200 bucks is quite a bit for someone scraping to get by.

  • If something is to be the source of most if not all of your entertainment, it does not make sense to purchase something that is vastly inferior when the price difference is only $200. You wouldn't for example buy a 2002 car with a tape deck and manual windows, if the one next to it was a 2013 loaded with new features, and only $200 more.

  • 200 could have bought food for a month though if spent right that's what he's getting at 200 can go a long way for someone struggling to make ends meet as is

  • Yes it can, but he saved this for entertainment. Which a PS4 will cover for over a decade.

  • A car is a bad example. It provides a way to and from work and the ability to go out and get the things you need. A console that still has all the major AAA titles coming to it, still has all the access to netflix, hulu, vudu, crunchyroll, etc., and is more than half the cost is a better investment if I am struggling to feed myself. Again, older consoles have better sales too. Buy it, keep it for a year or so, then trade all that in towards a new one when you get the chance and it works out better. It saves you money so you can eat and pay your bills. Those two things take priority, or they should, if you're picking between a ps3/ps4 360/x1.

  • I am so glad all the poor people have you to tell them that they shouldn't save up for nice things, because you don't think they earn enough to work towards having them.

  • So you're done making valid points? Awesome. Glad it's settled I was making more sense than you so you had to settle for twisting my words around. I won't be responding after this so enjoy the rest of your day.

  • No, you are not making more sense, you just keep resorting to what you would do if you were poor, and completely disregarding any reason why someone wouldn't want to buy a console from 2002.

  • Actually I am going to have to agree, if you get the game console at GameStop, which they know me by name by know - if you had an old PS3 they were willing to give you nearly $200.00 towards a PS4 and that would have cut the cost in nearly half. I'm sure they had the same deal for XBOX ONE. Anyhow if someone works and saves their money it is not up to us to tell them how to spend their money, to say because they are living pay check to pay check means they are not entitled to entertainment - well that's just ignorant. That would be like telling me, because I am a single father raising 2 boys on my own that I need to stop being a kid and quit playing games because I no longer have the privilege that so many others have. However I make the sacrifices, pay my bills and break my back to keep my house in order. So why shouldn't I enjoy those benefits? In todays world internet gives you an edge, wither it's looking for a job, building a resume, online schooling - the benefits are definitely better than cable TV. Me personally, I don't have cable TV but that's my choice, however I do have high speed internet. The main difference between someone who saves up for the little bits that they enjoy for entertainment and those of us who don't have to struggle for them, is those who have to save up tend to appreciate them more - not saying those of us who can easily make these purchases don't appreciate our bits of entertainment. I haven't forgotten back in the day, when I was younger - working 2 jobs to make ends meet. You know what though, I had nice things. It may had taken me a bit longer to get those nice things, but who's to say they don't deserve it? Entertainment does help to cope with the every day grind, I can understand why this person is upset. If they saved up for this, looking forward to a bit of time away from reality, which isn't always like a Hallmark commercial for many and they finally get it, excited - only to be disappointed that they can't play. Either way, doesn't justify the fact that the servers aren't coping well and many people can't stay logged on long enough to play. My advice is take it to GameStop and trade it in, you won't get full price but hopefully you will get a decent amount towards a game you can play without the frustrations and still have some entertainment.
