Convert PS3 retail disc to digital
I bought the PS3 retail disc version of the game. After doing research I feel like I have made a mistake and I would like to convert to the digital version of the game.
What I’m wondering is if there is a way to change my account from the disc version to the digital but keep my account with the same characters?

They're actually saved on Bungie's servers, so you altering what type of version (disc or digital) that you get won't have any effect on how your Guardians are loaded up for you. [/quote] For this, you'll have to contact your retailer about their return policies for you Destiny Game Disc. If you're able to get that refunded, you can simply just buy the digital version in the Xbox Live or PSN online store for your console.
