What's the point of an individual stat in a team focused game?
All it would allow people to do is divide players.
So now now to raid you will be required to do 1.5k dps or higher.
There's just no point. At all.
Why do you need a gold star to know know you individually did?
Did you complete it or not? That's how you gage it.
So now people will just shoot the crap out of a boss and ignore all the adds. Why not? My damage meter will look good at the end.
Then you can say "your all scrubs look at my damage" when in reality it was you who ignored all teamwork to hit a high damage number.
Don't give people an individual stat to shoot for in a team focused game. They will then shoot for that goal regardless of the team.
Don't believe me?
What's more important to people
Your kill to death ratio or kdr
Your win loss ratio or wlr

They're trying to turn it into WOW *shudder*

That really suck then. You know, it'd be great if there was a way to avoid people who would do that... Oh wait, there is.

Edited by TargetPractice86: 11/18/2014 6:05:45 AMAvoid people that would do what specifically? Screw over the team to get the highest damage they could? Brag about how high their damage was even though the group utterly failed at completing the strike? Again if you put an individual stat in a team game. What is each persons motivation to work as a team? If at the end I can brag about how much higher my damage is than you.
-
I can't tell if you're bad at English, or if it's your second language and you're still learning.

Edited by TargetPractice86: 11/18/2014 6:06:20 AMWas just asking you to elaborate more on your response is all. Edit. I see. My auto correct misspelled one word. Should have been motivation.

I'd just like to view how much damage I did on a boss. I mean, if there is someone who actually feels like doing more damage makes them so much better, it helps because it shows me someone who I can block.
-
So then if you were fighting the archon priest. Why would anyone shoot a single add? If the damage meter only registered damage to the boss then why shoot anything else? So now no one will focus any of the adds, they will get out of control and most likely the fire team will fail in their objective. I mean why even bother resurrecting anyone? The longer they are out of the fight the more damage I can do to the boss. Again. If you give someone an individual stat to go for that is what they will do. It's always at the cost of the team.
-
People need to focus on the other enemies, otherwise the people get killed. If the people are able to kill the Archon without having to worry about the other enemies, then it doesn't even matter. Sorry, but your logic is flawed. And like I said, there is always the option to ignore anyone who does this if you don't like it.

Edited by TargetPractice86: 11/18/2014 6:40:27 AMI'm still confused. You say people will still have to work on the adds. Yet if you don't show up on the damage meter at the end from killing them why would you kill them? I see no point. It defeats the idea of teamwork. So if I focused on only the adds while my team mates kill the boss I would have 0 damage done to the boss. So now my team mates think I'm a scrub because I have 0 damage done. It doesn't matter I killed 20 adds to allow them to kill the boss without worrying about adds. I have 0 damage. I was a team player and have 0 damage. We haven't even gotten into certain supers would increase your chances of scoring high on the damage meter. Golden gun and nova bomb come to mind. Arc blade, fists of havoc, word of dawn all would be at a disadvantage. We all work as a team. Some people may kill the boss. Others have to pick up the adds. If one person can shoot a golden gun to nuke a boss while another person pops a bubble to keep you safe we worked as a team. What does how much damage each individual did to a boss have to do with teamwork? How do you know if someone is "good" or "bad?" Maybe my gun was fully upgraded and yours wasn't. There's so many variables that goes into how each person contributed to the team. Just adding a total damage to a boss doesn't tell half the story of what actually happened during they encounter. It also does little to tell you how skilled a person was.
-
If they think you're bad because you were defending them while they attacked the boss, then they themselves are the real idiots. Besides why would you care what other people think of you when they're obviously stupid?
-
Let me try a different example. Putting a damage in a boss is like. Saying a NFL quarterback threw for 350 yards. Well how many touchdowns did he have? Did he have any interceptions? What was his completion percentage? How many times was he sacked? Did his team win? Total damage is only one piece to a bigger puzzle. There's not enough information to figure out how each person got the amount of damage to the boss. How powerful were there weapons? Did they focus on the adds? Did they know to go for the head shot? Did they use their super on the boss or did they kill adds to spawn orbs of light for their team members? Total damage done is one small portion of how each person contributed to the team. Why make it seem more important by displaying that at the end of the match? Without other supporting information that number has no meaning.

just as a brief point about your kdr comment the main difference between kdr for crucible and the proposed damage meter for the raid is this crucible has (semi) forced matchmaking whereas the raid does not why this is important is because in the crucible you get matched with people you probably have no idea how to properly play as a team with. you may get matched with people who have terrible gear, are god awful players, or worse yet trolls who intentionally try to ruin the game by feeding the enemy. Yes you could only run crucible with hand selected people from your friends list but honestly I find it harder to get a crucible group going than a raid group where I can cherry pick who I want to play with because I know they will be great team players. This is a team game regardless of if its pvp or pve, this means everyone has to do their part. But in pvp this is much harder to enforce and so you have kdr's being more important than wlr also as one little sidenote, since the patch went live today I played a few rounds in crucible with the team chat on hoping to work together better. I was the only one signed in in 5 straight games =_=
-
I guess I was more referring to pve. Still at the end of the day kdr is an individual stat in a team based game. But that's a discussion for another time. Also I'm not surprised at all no one was talking. Maybe people don't know you can. Maybe people like the silence. I much prefer that than the usual chat that takes place in a multi player lobby.
-
I can understand liking the silence especially since this community can be soooo toxic. But I'd still like to be able to shoutout at my teammates, "careful by the door, theres a sniper" "He's coming up behind you" "please dont stand in front of me when I have my rocket launcher" "wait a sec and i'll clear with super" etc. You know, just little helpful team things ;p
-
I don't disagree with you in any way. I guess in my experience with online games is most people need to be muted lol. I'm not suggesting that random people can't work as a team. Just more often than not people reach for hate. I can remember many a time playing call of duty calling out a strategy in a match. Something like "Hey flag A and B are the easiest to hold on this map." "Let's work on getting those 2." My responses were always. "FU!" "Don't tell me what to do." "Shut up scrub."
-
You're right, but this game already does a lot to harm teamwork.
