Decent distraction... But definitely should be better. I actually swore off collectors editions a while ago but I though, "it's bungie" and dropped the cash.
Oh well, still fun to play now and then. But another poster who quoted a friend who said it best, "no soul".

What could they add to pit soul into the game?

A story that connects the player to the character and the character to the game. When the game can invoke an emotional response from its players. (Outside of generalized rage when you suck at something, lol) Like this guy said, there is no emotion to Destiny. Its a completely and remarkably disconnected experience. Its literally nothing more then grinding the same 5 strikes over and over, with a pause once a week to do a nightfall, a heroic, and a raid with no point or purpose to it other then finding little purple balls. They dont even really describe why the items come in an engram to begin with. There is just nothing to connect the player to the game and give you any passion about it outside of "OOOHH!! Purple engram..."

Edited by GANTZ: 11/13/2014 12:35:23 PMthis , mass effect is a nice example how make great connection to characters you play and interact with , there are plenty others but i chose ME because of the similar setting

Do you think they could rectify that through future updates or DLCs?
-
Honestly... no. I think even at Bungie they are starting to count Destiny as a wash. Id be willing to bet resources are already being pulled off this project for other things. The game pissed off the reviewers, so they crushed it scores. Its content upgrade schedule is far behind its player base. Even the casual players have run out of things to do. The grind is absolutely mind numbing. In others MMO type games, yes there is an equal amount of grind but there is a point to it. There is always some sort of gain from the grinding. In Destiny however, you can run tiger strikes all day, you can spend hours in front of a loot cave, raid till your fingers bleed and never increase a single stat. The only point to it is building cryptarch levels which there is no purpose to what so ever. The drops never improve past lv14, his level gifts are completely random, and no change in them regardless of level. So yeah, I dont think anything short of a complete story content and stat system overhaul, which is really not an option at this point that Destiny may be a lost cause. Even if they shift all their resources to Destiny 2 that they are evidently already working on, the damage is already done. So the game is... decent... but it still suffers from all the same problems Defiance has. Disconnected story, lack of content, server instability, and no point for its grind.

What kinds of things could they add to the story, specifically, that could at least help?
-
Possibly, but only if it was designed that way in the first place.
-
What do you think of the idea of the more involved story missions in the upcoming DLC?
-
If I knew that, I'd have a different day job.
-
Well what would do it for you, personally.
-
A compelling story. Interesting and dynamic characters that you can get invested in.... That would be a good start.
-
Like for the NPCs to address you differently depending on what you've done, or perhaps giving their own missions?
-
Mass Effect has shown us what is possible, as well as the original Dragon Age and witcher 2. A dynamic game that evolves based on the decisions we make. Unfortunately the companies in control got cold feet, or viewed their successes as just not successful enough. So they cut that down and once again the most anticipated games being released are little more than rail shooters.

Edited by Zavala's powerful tusk: 11/13/2014 4:56:45 AMWhat aspects of those games do you think are realistic to add to Destiny at this point?
-
You cant. They would need to recall the game, completely reprogram the story, stat trees, and loot system to do that. That is just not an option, and no amount of content upgrades are going to fix the fact that there is no story to the game. Its just disconnected missions that dont have any real point to them other then the merciless slaughter of aliens that just happen to be in the way. Sure its fun for a while, but how long can you continue to do that before you just start asking yourself... why?
-
What if they were to begin filling in back story through new missions?
-
Its possible, but I dont think they could fill THAT much back story. The story to Destiny is basically "Wake up... now live." I mean seriously, if I wanted to do that I dont need a video game, lol.
-
Well they said some interesting things regarding how they will handle the story in the DLC. I'm curious as to how that will play out.
