Unique gameplay benefits would definitely help people hold their own character in higher regard, but for characters I think the first priority should be on having an actual story with memorable character interaction. I've been spoiled by Mass Effect and Dragon Age. No amount of gameplay buffs would make me feel truly attached to a character that opens his mouth like...ten times throughout the entire storyline.

  • This was something that I really did not get about this game (memorable character monologue and interaction with the NPCs) I just assumed it was inherent to FPS games (which I generally do not play) and shrugged it off. I do think that telling the story thru these types of interactions, directly with the main player's conversations is among the best way to do it, but since it appears not to be the method for this game I suppose we have to wait and see if the vender style of story telling will work or not.

  • The sad irony is that the vendors occasionally do say something interesting that adds to the lore...if you stand around motionless for minutes at a time. It seemed as if they were trying to go for a Dark Souls or Metroid Prime style of storytelling where the juicy parts are hidden in the background, but the substance just...wasn't there. That's probably the biggest problem with the current storyline, so many things are hinted at but never given any substance.
