How do we make the Gunsmith relevant again?
I feel sorry for the Gunsmith. Standing behind that counter all day. Nothing to do. No one to talk to. (Except maybe a lvl 8 character) maybe the occasional Exotic Bounty lead.
A couple of my ideas:
[b] Allow him to upgrade weapon levels[/b]. The Stranger's rifle is cool, but at lvl 16 it lacks punch. What if I could upgrade it to 17, 18, 20? 300 attack on the Khovostov? Think about it!
[b] Allow him to change the elemental effect[/b] Let me take a rocket launcher that I like. Maybe its one that upgrades to the triple clip but it's only a lvl 18 with Arc damage. I could use my glimmer to get it to 20 and then change it to Void.
The fact is I don't even care if it's expensive. Give me (and the Gunsmith) something to do with my marks and glimmer. I'd pay 5000 to level it up. I'd pay the same to change the elemental. And I don't know if glimmer is the best fit for upgrade currency, the developers know best on that one, but let's put this guy to work again.
I hope he's on salary, cause if he's getting paid by the hour, bungie, you need to let him go.

8 RepliesWhat if he also had Gun Shaders? Some of the current gun colours are vile. Visiting the Gunsmith for a permanent one time use shader change, with gun shaders for sale that change on a timer like all the other items, that would be very cool. And bring a whole new level of character and weapon customisation.

What if we could use the Gunsmith’s CNC machine to dismantle raid gear and use it to upgrade any other tier of gear (Common/Uncommon/Rare/Legendary) to the point where that alternate gear can reach lvl 30 light. I loved a green helmet I had for my early Warlock but never saw anything similar after leveling out of it. It could cost both Glimmer and Motes of Light. Pay your fee and drop in a piece of raid gear to upgrade another piece of gear for the same body slot, no using your third pair of gloves to get your endgame boots. Pay two pieces of raid gear and be allowed some control over the upgrades the newly boosted gear gets. This will give people something to do with extra raid gear instead of just sharding it or starting duplicate characters. Also, custom weapon shaders because why not. Also also, real sights (holographic/red dot/scopes) for handcannons. The last two are just something from my Destiny wishlist.

Maybe pay some amount of glimmer to turn it into a legendary lv 20 weapon with the damage tree added to the end. I feel the gunsmith is useless once you get to lv 20. Edit: Wepons should Be Able to let hem reforge the Wepons as well

He was never even relevant for low levels. The only time he is needed is fir ammo synths and an exotic bounty

It's been quite humbling. I love this game and can't wait to see what is to come. I believe these changes could be kept simple and really add to the solid weapons base they've created. 5 RepliesPro Tip: When doing the pocket infinity bounty keep an eye out on his stock, sometimes he sells rare fusion rifles. Anyway, I like this idea especially the whole damage type change one. There are definitely some legendaries I'd like to change.

I like the idea of making the gun Smith being able to level up your weapons... but how would that work if the reason is to want a better one which leads to grinding for legendarys. I like the element swapping idea also but that also leads to grinding legendarys... but these are good I deals for gunsmiths .... also reforgeing like the iron banner way but for normal legendarys? Would also be awesome if you could reforge the shape.... also the camos... I've seen some blues that look way better then some legendarys which is pretty bs. Would be could if he can personalize your weapon into something you like
