Sparrow raced sound cool. I run those with friends on Patrols. I lose if they have the Raid scooter. Ship races? Explain how that would work.

  • How about some ship to ship combat instead? That mission in Halo Reach was the highlight of the game for me. Maybe something along the line of versus in Starfox 64?

  • Deej, me and a couple buddies set up our own little race tracks on the moon over the weekend. Usually just a couple buildings/landmarks to race around. It was really fun and very addicting, we even had a couple of random guardians join in on our race at one point. The way sparrows handle and the way you can bump into each other are perfect for racing and hopefully it gets implemented at some point. In the meantime, I think it would be cool to have a full map added to patrols with the option to add waypoints or markers. This way we could create our own racetracks with our friends. That option would also be helpful for other reasons too, sometimes I see an area that I want to come back to at a later time so dropping a marker there would be very nice.

  • Racing in the open world of patrols sounds kind of odd, lore wise. We are all supposed to be fighting the enemy while on the ground. So a group of guardians sparrow racing reminds me of a group of construction workers drinking booze while on the job. Lol. Seriously now, sparrow racing should be a separate PvP playlist with its own courses. Each course should have a variety to the geometry. Think of the pod race from Star Wars Episode 1 as an example of variation in the geometry of the course. There should be separate lobbies for players with exotic/green/blue sparrows because green sparrows will be left in the dust against purple sparrows with that speed booster Xur sells. Also, the rewards should be varied, random and should range from material like spin metal/spirit bloom to ascendent material. First place gets six, second place gets five, third place gets four, etc. Same with the inevitable reputation. First place should get more rep points than last place. And, once a week, at perhaps a random time, an exotic will be up for grabs to the first place winner ONLY. Have the rewards be displayed before the race begins to show everyone that the exotic is on the line to promote competition. Iron Banner Sparrow Racing: Sparrows have durability, right? In IB, if your sparrow is destroyed, (via collision with the environment, fell in a pit/drove off world, or was hit by another sparrow too many times) you lose the race, period. There are no respawns.

  • How about like halo teams of 2 with the passenger getting a gun to try and destroy other racers

  • That, is how I see ships in general working. Ship races would, IMO have to be PvP, along with dogfights, all taking place in region of space. Races would likely be linear, point A to point B type stuff, with checkpoints in between. It would also have enemies for obstacles and random drops for powerups, like boosts, slows, or EMPs, amongst other things.

  • First of all, we don't really use our ships except for traveling and I really want to use my shop for more reasons.Second of all, the ships are really cool with weapons that are really cool and I wish we could use them. And third of all, e all have ships and some think we can use them for more and more reasons, other than traveling at light speed.

DeeJ please look up a game called "Galaxy on Fire 2" and show it to the Dev team. That would by far be the coolest way to travel. Also maybe we could gather some materials while on the way to trade in to the crucible or vanguard quartermaster.

  • Instead of the loading screen how about we race people to our destination. And maybe use a weapons system on the ship to make things interesting?

DeeJ, i read a post a while ago about this. Unfortunately, I can't remember his tag, but in it he detailed many things for this. Sparrow racing
A basic summary of what he said is that a third option could be added next to the crucible icon, The Colosseum. In it, guardians and citizens would be lined up around the ring, shouting and cheering. Spectating guardians would be allowed to place bets on their favorites, and get chase views on the racers if they want through their ghost. When entering a race, players are entered into a que for their equipped sparrow rarity. Rewards would be performanced based and only the top three can get good items. Don't worry about unfair reward systems towards noobs, they are all riding the same sparrow. The rewards can include the normal drop table for crucible or vanguard. The track itself can be a loop around the planet, or a more extravagant arena filled with turrets and pit falls.
As for ship racing
there is no need for that, but some intractability with it would be great
Or my own idea for it is to purchase racing sparrows that are extremely fast and can't be used outside the arena because of power consumption.

  • The Sabre mission from Reach would be a nice foundation to work on to lay down some space missions and set the parameters for spaceship control... But considering it's part of the Halo franchise, I'm assuming that code belongs to Microsoft now.

  • For one, its actually a use of these pretty loading screens we have lol Well, 2 ways: -Space race: 3D map, with debris and an optimal course to get to a given set of checkpoints. -Atmospheric/surface run: similar to wipeout just using the landscapes of the game and using the basic mechanics of the sparrows, just with perhaps the ability to rise to a given height isntead of only gliding at some height from the ground.

  •
The best idea I have is to sell entrance tickets to 6-12 person bike races that take place in community areas on the planets. The race would have check points to reach, they'd race to a checkpoint an dismount entering on foot and have to grab a position and then continue the next leg of the race on speeder. All the check points would have enemies which would slow down 1st place and speed up last place... I think the tower needs many mini games, live crucible monitors with other gambling in the tavern is an idea I like... I also enjoy the idea of a bunch of guardians fighting hoards of enemies... Thanks all
• Ship races could use space debris and a ring system for checkpoints. You would have the ability to use both axis to have vertical and lateral movement. I'm really not sure how you would make it that much different from sparrow races though.

  • Yeah! I was also thinking about space debris! But not very fond of the checkpoint ring system. In my mind, I was thinking about a randomly generated, moving field of debris (around Earth) or asteroids (Saturn rings) or wrecked ships (the Reef) and you need to go from point A to point B basically without any pathfinding system and by just using flight skills. I didn't push the concept of ship's specs depending of their model or/and rarity but I would find very interesting to have the possibility of placing mine behind us and/or blasting a piece of debris with a rocket time to time in order to help cleaning the way (but be careful, blasting something in space could lead to chain reaction, putting relatively unmoving objects to a deadly course). In the end I was thinking of two modes: 1) all vs all. Everybody tries to reach the finish line first. 2) Squad run 3 vs 3. The time of every teamate is added to a total and the team with the shortest total time wins. the number of death will add time penalties to your total. I have absulotly no idea about the way the controls should be handle (ahah) but I quite liked the Reach space mission back in the years. Maybe this is a good start.

  • Idk about two types of races i think sparrow races are good enough you only need one type of race ship battles on the other hand would be awesome to have it be its own node on the map like vanguard armory or crucible and have a few different modes team deathmatch, control, a mode were you have to find weapon upgrades around the map in addition to the standard weapons the ships would have and itd make a ship like aspect of glass feel a lot more unique if it had some op weapons on it and ships would actually had a purpose instead of just looking pretty in orbit, they have no function at all besides aesthetic there should be more too them, also sparrow races definately need a better home then just patrol

here's my idea on ship racing/ battles. flying - same as movement, Xbox: left thumbstick Playstation: left thumbstick looking/ direction - same as looking, Xbox: right thumbstick Playstation: right thumbstick Boost - similar boost to an interceptor, can be upgraded to be like a sparrow boost. Xbox: left trigger Playstation: left trigger Barrel rolls - Xbox: dodge left: left bumper. Dodge right: right bumper Playstation: Dodge left: left bumper. Dodge right: right bumper. Nose dive - Xbox: Y button Playstation: triangle button 180 degree spin - Xbox: 180 left: X button. 180 right: B button Playstation: 180 left: square button. 180 right: circle button vertical flip: Xbox: A button Playstation: X button If air battles are implemented 3 types of weapons - 1: normal fire machine gun. 2: rocket launcher. 3: electric charge, charge the gun and release to fire, the longer held, the more powerful the attack. Each gun has an overheat mode, if you fire too long, your ship takes some damage and guns and boost/flips/dodges are disabled for a few seconds. Note: you will have to pay glimmer/ marks for better guns How to fire - Xbox: right trigger Playstation: right trigger 2 supers - 1: super big rocket, which tracks enemies: Xbox: hold both bumpers for 4 seconds for a lock and release. Getting killed whilst locking will not deplete super energy. Playstation: hold both bumpers for 4 seconds for a lock and release. Getting killed whilst locking will not deplete super energy. 2 - discharge: releases a massive electrical pulse around the ship, ship gets increased speed for 10 seconds. Xbox: press both bumpers Playstation: press both bumpers Note: both will take time to charge like supers, you can pay glimmer/ marks for upgrades Damage intake: The rarer the ship, the more damage it will take and the faster it is, but not too much. When your ship takes too much damage, it will explode, killing your guardian. I know that this would be a complete pain to code and probably would take a long time to do, but I hope you enjoy these ideas, feel free to add any ideas if I forgot something :D Edit: oh, and for maps, how about a friendly star? or even a derelict space station, or even just above the cosmodrome on earth

They can't explain it because they aren't game designers. A sparrow race playlist in the crucible, where you can earn gear and whatnot, would be neat I think. It would give destiny some much needed diversity to the whole "shoot this till its dead" gameplay.
